(PRWEB) September 16, 2005 -- Grammy-Award winning group Ozomatli will perform on Thursday, September 29 at the Roxy at a benefit event for Stop Handgun Violence, a Boston-based non-profit organization that works effectively to prevent firearm violence through public awareness and sensible legislation - without banning guns. In light of current events, Stop Handgun Violence and Modernista! have determined a portion of the proceeds raised will be donated to the American Red Cross of Massachusetts Bay to benefit those affected by Hurricane Katrina.

The benefit concert is being hosted by Modernista!, a Boston-based advertising agency serving national clients including General Motor's Hummer, Anheuser-Busch, Animal Planet, Rockport, Napster and TIAA-CREF. The benefit marks Modernista!'s fifth anniversary. Modernista! works with Stop Handgun Violence on a pro-bono basis.

"As we thought about the many ways in which we could celebrate this anniversary, we were determined to do something a little more significant than hosting a party," said Gary Koepke, executive creative director, co-founder of Modernista! "We believe that we will do well as our clients do well. By hosting this event, we can help raise the funds Stop Handgun Violence needs to achieve their goals. We can only benefit from their success."

The benefit for Stop Handgun Violence has been planned for some time. However, in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, both organizations felt the need to share the proceeds with the victims of the storm.

"Over the past ten years, we have made tremendous progress in Massachusetts in reducing the number of handgun injuries and deaths," said John Rosenthal, founder of Stop Handgun Violence. "This work needs to continue, both on a state and a national level. However, as we look around today, the victims of Hurricane Katrina are facing an immediate and dire need for help. It seems fitting that Stop Handgun Violence work with Modernista! to help raise funds that can benefit those who have been affected by the storm."

Ozomatli, a Los Angeles based Grammy Award-winning Afro-Latin-and-beyond band, has never been shy about their commitment to social justice. Ozomatli will bring its trademark blend of hip-hop and Latin styles to the Roxy for the benefit concert on September 29. Tickets for the event are $250.
