BRYN MAWR, PA (PRWEB) September 16, 2005 -- The American College recently completed the first residency of its newly reinvigorated Master of Science in Management (MSM) degree with an emphasis in Leadership. The MSM curriculum is tailored to meet the needs of individuals seeking to attain more responsibility within organizations including financial services companies, securities firms, and non-profit organizations.

The faculty at The American College is very impressive," said Scott Richards, CLU®, ChFC® and President of the North Star Resource Group in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I found the information immediately applicable in our firm. This learning experience is valuable to anyone who has been given the privilege of leading others."

You couldnt wait to get to the next lesson. Ive never been in a program where you are encouraged to learn things your way," said Lora Oldham, CLU, ChFC, RHU®, LUTCF, Vice President, Marketing, United Security Life and Health Insurance Company.

Acceptance into the MSM program is a highly competitive and selective process designed to identify management candidates of superior potential committed to a career with a leading financial organization. Professionals interested in enrolling in this program must meet specific experience and education prerequisites before being admitted. Limiting enrollment to 30 students provides students in the MSM in Leadership program with increased attention and direct interaction with The Colleges world-renowned faculty.

Richard A. Liddy, CLU, the retired Chairman, President and CEO of GenAmerica Financial Corporation, which provides life, pension, annuity and related insurance products and services, was a featured speaker at this years residency. In addressing the topic of leadership Liddy said, Leadership today is not about me and its not about you – its about the team. Its essential to have a team concept in mind when we speak of creating a style of leadership that works today."

Key leadership and management issues addressed by the program include organization cultures; performance improvement; ethics and social responsibility; managing group behavior, conflict and stress; power politics and influence; motivation and delegation; business law; managerial leadership; succession planning and more.

As an 18-year veteran in the financial services industry, this type of program with an emphasis in leadership is long overdue," said Frank J. Howell, CLU, ChFC, Vice President of Broker-Dealer Sales, Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company. Any company with vision to prepare for the leadership challenges of tomorrow should consider this investment in the managers of today."

The one-year program format utilizes a combination of distance education and on-campus classroom instruction in a flexible framework that allows busy working professionals interested in advancing their careers to balance the competing demands of advanced education, career and family obligations. Individuals who have completed their Chartered Leadership Fellow® (CLF®) designation through The American College may qualify for credit toward their MSM degree. Dr. Peter Dean, the O. Alfred Granum Chair in Management is responsible for the MSM in Leadership program. Interested students can contact Joanne Patterson at The American College at 610-526-1366 for more information.
