(PRWEB) September 29, 2005 -- From all around the world, letters of support, prayers, and compassion are pouring into a unique new website, located at www.letterstokatrinasurvivors.com . On the site, visitors have their messages instantly published. Some of the writers are hurricane survivors themselves.

Gayle from Texas writes, "The Lord will never give you more than you can handle." The words were posted Saturday, September 24, the day Hurricane Rita hit her home right outside of Houston, after she spent a fearsome night alone during the massive hurricane.

They need to see that other people have overcome other tragedies. And most of all, they need to know they are not alone.
Celeste from the Philippines writes, "There are no walls, after all. No 'us vs. them,' no differences in the human heart and the capacities for suffering. Your tears are ours, and our hearts reach out to you."

The website has been created by Dr. Michael Norwood, a holistic physician and author of the popular "Wealthy Soul" book series. The idea for the site came to him after his best friend and colleague, Dr. Antoine Ky of New Orleans, Louisiana lost his home, his clinic and two beloved family pets in the devastation wreaked by Katrina.

After speaking to his friend numerous times trying to bolster him, Norwood decided to write him a letter.

"I wanted to crystallize what I knew he was feeling," Norwood relates. "There's something very powerful, very validating, about acknowledging another's pain. Especially when you do it in writing. And even more so, when you follow it with a ray of hope."

While writing his letter, Norwood suddenly got the idea that such letters might be very healing to other Katrina survivors, as well. He now has provided the forum for visitors to post their inspiring words at www.LettersToKatrinaSurvivors.com .

Jim Van Wyck, a Canadian bookstore owner who posted one of the many earnest letters on the site, says, "There's been an outpouring of charity to Hurricane Katrina's survivors, but people haven't had a forum to express their emotion... a place to send prayers or thoughts or feelings. I was able to do that on this website."

Norwood, a survivor of several tragedies himself, is particularly interested in Katrina's survivors.

"People who go through such incredible losses need a source of hope," he says. "They need to see that other people have overcome other tragedies. And most of all, they need to know they are not alone."
