Adi Adiwoso was selected as APSCC's 2005 Executive of The Year in Asia Pacific based on his commitment to utilize and promote the use of satellite in Asia to serve the rural areas where telecommunications is helping to narrow the digital divide.
My expertise in the satellite telecomm business has been directed towards those who need it most, it's a financially challenging role, however, it is rewarding and satisfying in the long run.

Singapore, Singapore (PRWEB) September 30, 2005 -- At the APSCC gala dinner, APSCC Chairman Mr. Eui G. Koh announced Mr. Adi Rahman Adiwoso, CEO of Asia Cellular Satellite (ACeS) as APSCC's 2005 Executive of The Year in Asia Pacific. Mr. Adiwoso was selected based on his commitment to utilize and promote the use of satellite in Asia to serve the rural areas where telecommunications is helping to narrow the digital divide.

Some of his accomplishments have been through the Universal Services Obligation (USO) in various countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia and China. Because of his efforts, thousands of underserved villages are currently connected through satellite services.

Other achievements of Mr. Adiwoso include advocating the provision of telecommunication via satellite in disaster afflicted areas, most recently the Asian Tsunami of December 2004 affecting Indonesia, Thailand, Maldives, Malaysia, Srilanka, India and Somalia. Only Satellite services were available in these areas when most terrestrial facilities were destroyed. ACeS R-190 handsets and ACeS FR190 fixed terminals were immediately deployed on a temporary basis until the terrestrial networks recovered. Prior to the Tsunami, there were regions where terrestrial infrastructure had not been deployed yet, making the use of satellite based communications a necessity. Fittingly, Mr. Adiwoso has now also been appointed as the expert advisor on ICT to Mr. Kuntoro Mangkusubroto, head of the (post Tsunami) Aceh Reconstruction and Revitalization Body.

Mr. Adiwoso's commitment to disaster prevention using satellite technology has also led to ACeS satellite terminals and services being used for transmitting ground movement data in the Sumatera Subductive areas by California Institute of Technology of the USA (Caltech). The Sumatera Subductive areas are key to monitor as it is where the Eurasian and the Indian/Australian tectonic plates meets and potentially may cause damage in the future. Currently there are approximately 30 points in this area which are closely monitored by the Caltech team with the help of the ACeS system.

Mr. Adiwoso said "My expertise in the satellite telecomm business has been directed towards those who need it most, it's a financially challenging role, however, it is rewarding and satisfying in the long run."
