The Society of Recovering Sorority Girls, through its founders, Kristina “Morgan” Rose and Deandra “Brooksie” Brooks, announce the start of “Project Cinderella” for the 2006 prom season. “Project Cinderella” is a formal dress donation drive that will provide high school girls in need with a dress to wear to their school’s prom.
(PRWEB) January 24, 2006 -- The Society of Recovering Sorority Girls, through its founders, Kristina “Morgan” Rose and Deandra “Brooksie” Brooks, announce the start of “Project Cinderella” for the 2006 prom season. “Project Cinderella” is a formal dress donation drive that will provide high school girls in need with a dress to wear to their school’s prom.
“We are confident that 2006 will be our biggest drive yet,” stated Kristina “Morgan” Rose. “Already, a number of women have contacted us to find out if we were collecting dresses yet.”
“It’s official! Project Cinderella 2006 is now up and running,” added Deandra “Brooksie” Brooks.
For the third consecutive year, the Society of Recovering Sorority Girls will partner with Arlington Public Schools to benefit the In Support of Children Fund through “Formals for Five.” The Society of Recovering Sorority Girls collects gently used formal wear which is then donated to the school district. Dresses can purchased by potential prom-goers at the school district’s “Formals for Five” with a $5 donation to the In Support of Children Fund. This fund is used by Arlington Public School’s social workers to better prepare needy children to attend school.
“Brooksie and I strongly believe that formal dresses were meant to be worn, not relegated to the back of closets,” said Morgan. “So send your prom dress back to the prom by donating it to Project Cinderella.”
During last year’s effort, the Society of Recovering Sorority Girls collected 119 formal dresses - a 60 percent increase over 2004 - for “Formals for Five.” In addition to raising funds for the Arlington County Schools’ In Support of Children Fund, this formal dress drive made the dream of a $5 prom dress a reality for many of the young women who attended the event.
“This is your chance to be a fairy godmother and make someone’s dream of attending her high school prom come true. You’ll receive a tax donation credit and the ability to buy yourself a fabulous new replacement dress guilt-free,” advised Brooksie.
Dresses will be collected through April 22. The organization requests that donated dresses be in good condition and dry-cleaned. Gently used prom dresses, bridesmaid dresses and formal wear are all acceptable donations. All donors will receive income tax receipts from the Arlington County School District.
“Go clean out your closet and let us know how many dresses you’ll be donating this year,” concluded Morgan.
