What's this? Family friendly indie film art? Lumenas Animation Studios hosts stop-motion animation exhibit in Main Street Mall in Park City as Sundance Festival is underway. Children's Independent Film seeks to make its mark with the independent audience.

(PRWEB) January 27, 2006 -- A surprising local independent studio bucks the system with its family friendly cutting edge stop-motion animation being showcased in the Main Street Mall while stark dramas and adult themed Indies surround them as the Sundance Film Festival is underway in Park City.

“Following your instincts, that is what independent film is all about,” says Darin McDaniel, President of the Salt Lake based Lumenas Animation Studios. He certainly followed his instincts as he left MGM to pursue what can only be described as a vision for children’s entertainment. “The adult independent film market has gained so much ground giving creative purpose and revolutionary artistic approaches a real space and a strong audience. Children deserve the same kind of quality in their entertainment. In the world of books and illustration, artists experience much-less confined criterion than what is traditionally expected of an animated film. Bringing the richness of that kind of imagination and a freedom to present new stylistic forms is the goal of Lumenas Studios.”

This is a story that has never fully been developed and told. We’re excited to unfold this legend with the uniquely lush detail and groundbreaking style that has become the signature of Lumenas Animation Studios.
Standing near armature puppets of Davie & Golimyr, the main characters of Lumenas’ 45-minute collaborative film (created in conjunction with Ageless Animation) in the final stages of post-production, it’s clear that these puppets are in an entirely new tradition.

“With the proprietary technology we’ve developed and are using, we can put more production dollars into the conceptual design, the sculpting and detailing of our story worlds”, adds Daren Smith, Lumenas’ Visual Effects Producer, who after leaving Pixar teamed up with Lumenas, and developed several patented processes which have married cutting edge CG technology with the physical world of stop-motion.

Their newest project, The Legend of Santa Claus, slated as their first theatrical release, explores the real life origins of the myth of Santa Claus within a fantastical realm.

"We are here to firm up the final funding of this project,” McDaniel says. “This is a story that has never fully been developed and told. We’re excited to unfold this legend with the uniquely lush detail and groundbreaking style that has become the signature of Lumenas Animation Studios.”
