Unique treatment of Civil War Book garners award for freshness of voice. Author to share business insights with senior citizens wishing to start-up a new career.

(PRWEB) January 27, 2006 -- "Times of the Civil" War by Don Bracken was given the "Fresh Voices Award" from the Writer's Marketing Association on January 23, 2006.

Reviewed by Macleans Magazine as an “ingenious construction,” the book was the first known publication to offer a threefold perspective of the major battles of the American Civil War.

Starting a Career of Gold When You are Over Fifty
This the author achieved by placing in contrast the battlefield reportage of “The New York Times,” and its southern counterpart, the “Charleston Mercury.” In juxtaposition to the two newspapers, Bracken placed the analysis of those same battles by the modern historians commissioned by the Civil War Sites Advisory Commission.

“The fog of war was not confined to the battlefield,”Bracken said after receiving the award. "During the Civil War it filled the reading rooms of America. The newspapers, struggling with poor communication, often reported rumor for news. It was a frightening time for everyone.”
"Times of the Civil War"(1420806955) is available on Amazon.com and Barnesandnoble.com.

Departing the past for the present, Don Bracken’s new book "Starting a Career of Gold When you are over Fifty," will soon be available in bookstores. A businessman who achieved a signal success in his “golden years,” Bracken’s book will focus on helping those AARP -- eligible individuals who would like to start a career in their “golden years.”

"Starting a Career of Gold When You are Over Fifty" will be published by Today’s Books, an imprint of History Publishing Company. It will be made available to bookstores, chains and Internet outlets.
