Waltham, MA (PRWEB) January 31, 2006 -- Boston University’s Center for Digital Imaging Arts (CDIA) presents the Winter 2006 Screening of Digital Filmmaking Student Works at the Landmark Embassy Cinema located at 16 Pine Street (just off Moody Street) in Waltham, MA on Friday, February 3, 2006 from 10 A.M. to 12 Noon. The program features the following films by graduating Digital Filmmaking students: Richard Stack's The Year of the Bluefish, a mockumentary that chronicles the final year of a community bank with a scene in which you are actually reading the thoughts of a man sitting at a desk while he's saying something else; Mike Kowalczyk's Obsolete, a film about life and death choices taken from a Chuck Polonick short story; Cheryl Powell's Native America: The Seventh Generation, conveys the state of American Indians in America today; Yari Wolinsky's Wolf, a take on Little Red Riding Hood with a twist on the tale, Sudden Noises, a "Shooting on Location" class project about a returning Iraq war veteran who has trouble adjusting to civilian life; and CDIA, an admissions film produced by the students as their Production Practicum working under the faculty supervision of David Tamés. The Production Practicum offers students the opportunity to spend four weeks working on a real-world project for a real-world client, rounding out their hands-on education.
Howard Phillips, Associate Director, said, "I'm impressed with the work the students have done; each film reflects the individual voice of each student." Phillips continues, "What sets CDIA apart from other film programs is we immerse students in the filmmaking process right away. Students refine their skills, work in a collaborative, hands-on environment and conclude with a final project and a four-week production practicum, which offers students experience working on a real project for a real client."
Federico Muchnik, Program Director, Digital Filmmaking, said, "Students surprise us with the fact that they come up with their own creativity; they reach into themselves and come out with things that they didn't expect." Muchnik continues, "The wide range of students in our program teaches me that there's a whole new world out there, and older students teach me that it's possible to change careers in the middle of your life."
