Craneware, Inc., a leading supplier of chargemaster and revenue-cycle software solutions, and the Ohio State University School of Allied Medical Professions, announced a collaboration to develop specific academic preparation around charge description master (CDM) management skills for health information management (HIM) students.

Orlando, Florida (PRWEB) October 7, 2006 -- Craneware, Inc., a leading supplier of chargemaster and revenue-cycle software solutions, and the Ohio State University School of Allied Medical Professions, announced a collaboration to develop specific academic preparation around charge description master (CDM) management skills for health information management (HIM) students.

The chargemaster plays a central role in the revenue a hospital receives for its services. Health information management professionals are often charged with the responsibility of ensuring that the chargemaster contains accurate and timely codes. A “clean” chargemaster ensures complete and compliant billing. The role of the HIM professional is expanding, with a deeper relationship and impact upon coding, billing and reimbursement. Through the OSU/Craneware collaboration, students now have the ability to learn electronic CDM management in a university setting, an opportunity that has not been available previously.

“The Ohio State University Medical Center has successfully used Craneware’s Chargemaster Toolkit™ CDM-management software for a number of years,” explained Jim Wilson, Executive Vice President for Craneware. “We have sponsored internships with OSU’s HIM senior students over the years. The progression into full academic training with OSU involving chargemaster management software was a natural evolution and collaboration.”

“OSU is excited about the ongoing relationship with Craneware,” remarked Melanie Brodnik, Ph.D., RHIA, Director and Associate Professor of the Health Information Management & Systems program at OSU’s School of Allied Medical Professions. “The ability to offer these classes stemmed from the generous donation of Craneware’s software to OSU, along with the efforts of the OSU faculty and the Craneware team. It’s a unique opportunity for all involved.”
