FLAVORx Announces Contest to Reward Pharmacy Technicians

To credit the hard work and dedication of pharmacy technicians, FLAVORx has announced its FLAVORx SuperTech Contest. Because technicians are consistently a point of contact for patient education and consultation, FLAVORx recognizes the importance of acknowledging the impact technicians have on patient care programs. Until December 31st, technicians can register online at www.flavorx.com for a chance at a $1,000 cash prize.

Bethesda, MD. (PRWEB) October 18, 2006 -- Believe it or not, pharmacy technicians are commonly the first point of contact patients have when they walk up to a prescription counter. They represent a collection of highly skilled, dedicated workers in the healthcare system that bridges the communication gap between patient and pharmacist. Surprisingly so, technicians are often under-recognized despite the high level of personal and technical skills they possess in order to ensure the continued health of the consumer.

Itech.jpgt’s about time someone stepped up to reward their endeavors. FLAVORx, a medicinal flavoring system used in over 35,000 pharmacies nationwide, understands the integral role these pharmacy technicians play in patient consultation and treatment programs, especially when it comes to getting children to take their yucky tasting medicine. In recognition of their efforts, FLAVORx has launched the first annual FLAVORx SuperTech contest. Until December 31st, 2006 technicians will be eligible to register for a chance to win $1,000.

Pharmacy technicians perform many of the same duties as pharmacists in providing healthcare and medications to patients. With the chronic shortage of pharmacists, technicians are taking on more and more responsibilities. Among many other duties, technicians must maintain and stock medication inventory, maintain patient records, count or pour medications and manage insurance claims. More and more, technicians have begun to operate without continual instruction from pharmacists to help maintain the daily operations of the pharmacy and the satisfaction of its patients. However, in any pharmacy setting, be it retail, hospital or assisted-living facility, the pharmacy technician’s top priority still remains the same: patient care.

Over the years, FLAVORx has learned how technicians play a vital role in communicating medication facts, education and advice to patients. Because of their extensive hands-on experience and training with prescription and over-the-counter medications, technicians have both technical and practical knowledge of medications. Technicians deal with drugs and patients on a day to day basis making them experts not only in the areas of drug safety, interaction and proper use, but also experts at addressing patient needs and concerns.

According to Kenny Kramm, President and CEO of FLAVORx, “Technicians are particularly skilled in the practice of flavoring for two reasons. Technically, they are well trained in the flavoring process, and understand the safe addition of concentrated flavors and taste-masking agents to medications. Practically, because of their continued patient interaction, technicians see and hear the problems associated with medication and taste. By doing so, they recognize that flavoring can easily resolve the struggles associated with taking and administering medications.” Palatability is of particular concern for young patients who commonly fail to adhere to drug regimens simply because they cannot tolerate the bitter taste and foul smell of many liquid medications. Studies show that children are only 53% compliant when it comes to taking medications.

From now until December 31st, 2006, technicians can register for the FLAVORx SuperTech Contest online at www.flavorx.com. Applicants are asked to submit a short flavoring story and must then have a coworker, doctor or pharmacist submit a short 50-word referral on their behalf. FLAVORx will then compile a list of Top 10 Finalists who may then receive votes online from their friends, family and coworkers. The winner will receive a $1,000 cash prize and special recognition on the FLAVORx website.
