The David Leadbetter UPMC Golf Fitness Lab combines the tour-proven golf instruction of David Leadbetter with the world-renowned sports medicine research of the University of Pittsburgh to offer a comprehensive approach to golf improvement.
On hand for the announcement and demonstration will be the academy's founder and world-renowned golf instructor David Leadbetter and Scott Lephart, Ph.D., A.T.C., Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Sports Medicine and Nutrition at the University of Pittsburgh's School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (SHRS).
Through applied research and technologically advanced assessment tools, The David Leadbetter UPMC Golf Fitness Lab can identify biomechanical, neuromuscular and physical fitness deficiencies as well as optimal mechanisms to help prevent injury while maximizing performance.
The Golf Fitness Lab staff is comprised of researchers with clinical expertise in athletic training, biomechanics, exercise physiology and physical therapy. The staff uses state-of-the-art technology to identify, assess and compare key biomechanical and physiological factors integral to the golf swing. Of particular interest are muscular strength, flexibility and balance because these three areas are directly related to optimal golf performance and golf-related injury prevention.
The new Golf Fitness Laboratory facility includes launch monitor simulator technology, swing analysis instrumentation using an eight-camera infrared high-speed video capture system and proprietary software developed by University of Pittsburgh sports medicine experts for measuring joint and body segment kinematics and dual force plates for kinetic analysis.
The David Leadbetter Golf Academy World Headquarters in ChampionsGate now joins Pittsburgh's UPMC Golf Fitness Laboratory (at The Golf Shop), as the only two locations in the world utilizing these proprietary technological systems incorporated into an AboutGolf simulator.
