Apogee Composer in Residence, Anton Brejestovski, has completed a major new three act ballet, "The Faerie Queen", based on a commission from the Foundation for an original composition advancing human excellence in the performing arts.

New York and Moscow (PRWEB) October 31, 2006 -- The Apogee Foundation, an international nonprofit dedicated to the development of human excellence in the performing arts, announced today that its inaugural Artist in Residence, internationally renowned composer Anton Brejestovski, has completed work on a major new three act ballet entitled "The Faerie Queen" which the Foundation plans to produce in live performance and as a feature film in cooperation with its media & entertainment partner, Aurience Ltd.

Apogee launched its Artists in Residence program in 2005 to engage leading composers, choreographers, authors, directors, designers and other elite creative talent for the development of original compositions advancing human excellence in the performing arts. Each season, the Foundation selects an additional Artist in Residence to represent and further this mission. Mr. Brejestovski was awarded the distinction of serving as the inaugural Apogee Artist in Residence.

Born on 7 May 1971, Anton Brejestovski is based in Moscow, Russia. He seeks in his music to show realities beyond the physical world in all their depth and diversity. Over the past decade, Mr. Brejestovski has become internationally renowned for developing musical, spoken and written languages embodying the complex aesthetics of the faerie realm. His music is performed and recorded by Caprice, an ensemble composed of blue chip musicians from Russia's top symphony orchestras. His extensive credits include two ballets, four films, multiple theater productions, an opera, numerous academic works, and six globally distributed CDs which include the widely acclaimed Elvenmusic series.

Since 1999, Apogee has commissioned and participated in the development and production of original performance art to expand and showcase the talents of its beneficiaries at each stage of their careers. The deeply nuanced libretto for The Faerie Queen was developed in creative collaboration over the course of the past year by Mr. Brejestovski and Apogee President Kenneth Schneider. It follows the fortunes of Thomas who, by virtue of both extraordinary talents and events, enters the realm of the faeries and falls in love with the Faerie Queen. His experiences there and his eventual return to the human world serve to highlight the alternative aesthetics and values of these realms. Bringing the story to life are a magical instrument and fantastical creatures, each associated with its own aesthetic elements: including fauns, sprites, humans and four species of faeries. All of the ballet's three acts also contain a grand pas-de-deux for the ballet's principal dancers.

With the libretto and score now complete, Apogee will seek to engage as its next Artist in Residence the most talented available choreographer to complete this large scale collaborative project.

Apogee Composer in Residence Anton Brejestovski said: "This is my biggest and best composition so far, to which so much of my work over the past decade has formed a prelude. Since my early childhood I have felt the enchantment of the world of Faerie, its unattainable beauty and the perfection of its music compared to the human world, and I've tried to convey all of this through the ballet. The Faerie Queen focuses on our ability as humans to achieve excellence through the arts, and it's been a pleasure to develop such a composition in collaboration with Apogee to advance this very mission around the world."

Apogee President Kenneth Schneider said: "It has been a privilege to collaborate with such a visionary talent in producing this magnificent work of art. We are honored to have Mr. Brejestovski represent the Foundation and its ideals, and could not have asked for a better representative of the qualities of artistic excellence or a better way to represent these qualities than this major new composition."
