Energy Summit, named in honor of Nobel Laureate Alan G. MacDiarmid, showcases bioenergy and nanotechnology advancements before audience of 4,000 conference attendees.
Dallas, TX (PRWEB) October 10, 2006 -- Pragmaxis LLC announced today that its founder and managing director, Peter Balbus, chaired the Alan G. MacDiarmid Energy Summit held during the nanoTX'06 conference at the Dallas Convention Center September 27 and 28.
A Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, Dr. MacDiarmid was a featured speaker at the event and also participated actively in the three 2-hour sessions which comprised the Energy Summit, including: 1) bioprocessing working group; 2) commercial energy advancements; and 3) academic energy advancements. MacDiarmid provided a compelling overview of how Brazil became energy independent through domestic production of bioethanol and gasohol.
During the course of the Energy Summit, a broad range of emerging areas of bioenergy and agrienergy were showcased, including cellulosic ethanol production and biodiesel derived from various oil seed crops and grains. Of particular interest were advances in cellulosic ethanol production using wood chips as feedstock. Sam Hatcher, CEO of Liberty Holdings, Inc. and a cellulosic ethanol entrepreneur presented a well-received overview of his plans to construct a bioenergy demonstration plant in Northern Florida.
Jason Durst, an analyst with Moyes and Company provided a detailed overview on the economics of alternative energy, the dynamics of world oil markets and an explanation of some of the current drivers behind the interest in alternative energy sources.
Dan Foster, Founder and Managing Director of CapRock Bio-Fuels provided an insightful discussion of the current state of biodiesel efforts in the US and abroad.
In addition to chairing the Energy Summit, Balbus also was a distinguished speaker at the conference, presenting "What's Next in Nanotech Commercialization?" In his presentation he emphasized where the current state of commercializable nanotechnology is and where specific investable opportunities are likely to emerge over the next 1-3 years. Balbus is a graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a degree in chemical engineering and has completed executive programs in strategy and finance at the University of Chicago. He has nearly 25 years of business strategy and technology commercialization experience, and in addition to his consulting work also serves at President of the MIT Enterprise Forum of Chicago.
