Ben Edwards, Director of New Media Communications at IBM will speak at the Blog Business Summit. The business blogging conference will take place in Seattle, WA, Wednesday October 25 - Friday October 27, 2006.

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) October 16, 2006 -- Ben Edwards says that he first truly understood the power of social media during the 2004 presidential election campaign. "I was impressed with the role blogs played in shaping the agenda, " he said.

It was about that time that he also started to realize that these tools could be used to transformbusiness. A writer and editor for The Economist at the time, Edwards began researching blogs and other social media in earnest. But Edwards' fascination with the topic didn't end there.

Businesses are starting to understand why they must pay attention to these developments. But it's just as crucial to understand how to properly use these tools. That how-to information where the Blog Business Summit is a massive value-add.
"Blogs and other social media have transformative effects on culture and the business practice," he said. "They engender collaboration between business units, geographies and brands. They drive productivity. They motivate. They massively improve the ability of employees to find the information they want. They improve the quality of information an enterprise generates. In short, they make businesses smarter, better, faster and more robust."

IBM has become a guiding light for the use of blogs and social media in the business world. In his keynote speech at the Blog Business Summit, Edwards will discuss how new media is changing the way consumers relate to brands and what companies must do to keep up with the changes.

"All the recent mainstream media coverage of blogs and social media as a business tool is starting to sink in," said Edwards. "Businesses are starting to understand why they must pay attention to these developments. But it's just as crucial to understand how to properly use these tools. That how-to information where the Blog Business Summit is a massive value-add."

Event speakers include such business blogosphere luminaries as The Industry Standard founder John Battelle and Weblogs, Inc. CEO Jason Calacanis.
