Recent New York Times, New York Magazine and NBC Today Show reports tout benefits of very low calorie diets.

Miami, FL (PRWEB) November 9, 2006 -- Renowned physician, author and obesity expert Dr. Sanford Siegal, medical director of Miami, Florida-based Siegal Medical Weight Management, today added his voice to the chorus of other doctors and scientists who are touting the health benefits of extremely calorie restricted or "CR" diets.

"I realized decades ago that a very low calorie diet is the most effective way to lose weight," said Dr. Siegal. "Unfortunately, most people can't tolerate the extreme hunger that they experience on such a diet. That's why, in 1975, I created the hunger-suppressing Dr. Siegal's® Cookie that we use in our Cookie Diet™. Our cookie effectively controls our patients' hunger so that they can stick to the 800 calorie-a-day diet that we prescribe."

Dr. Siegal and his Cookie Diet™ have been featured in reports in myriad media outlets including ABC's Good Morning America, Woman's World, Health and The New York Post. In one of his early books, Dr. Siegal advocated an extremely calorie-restricted diet and discussed the considerable success that he had controlling his patients' hunger on an 800 calorie diet.

Obesity kills, and the recent reports in The New York Times and New York magazine, and on the Today show, acknowledge that calorie-restricted diets not only cause weight loss but may extend life.
According to Dr. Siegal, more than 500,000 overweight patients have been treated with his Cookie Diet ™ during the past 31 years. The diet includes one 300 calorie dinner supplemented with six Dr. Siegal's® cookies per day for hunger control for a total of just 800 calories per day. The typical compliant patient loses about 15 lbs. per month, the maximum rate at which Dr. Siegal feels one can lose fat.

"I'm delighted that the medical establishment is finally realizing what I've observed while treating hundreds of thousands of overweight patients," added Dr. Siegal. "Obesity kills, and the recent reports in The New York Times and New York magazine, and on the Today show, acknowledge that calorie-restricted diets not only cause weight loss but may extend life."

The New York Times article adds support to the contention that very low calorie diets result in extension of life. The article reveals almost incontrovertible evidence that this is true in animals, and quite possibly could extend to humans. Many people are aware of this concept, and indeed, a recent New York magazine article chronicles the day-to-day efforts of groups of people in New York who adhere to such a regime. Severe calorie restriction, now dubbed "CR" for Calorie Restriction, has become a way of life for many people, even those who are not overweight.

The Cookie Diet™ and Dr. Siegal's® hunger-controlling cookies, shakes and soups are currently available only to patients of Dr. Siegal's medical practice, Siegal Medical Weight Management, located in South Florida. However, they will be widely available from physicians throughout North America beginning next month.
