Divorce #1 reason people rush to scan their pictures, according to study by photo retailer, 30 Minute Photos Etc.

Irvine, CA (PRWEB) November 10, 2006 -- It is not always a pretty picture.

According to a study released today, lamentable events in people's lives top the list of ten leading reasons why people are choosing to have high-speed commercial scans made from their shoeboxes of pictures. But, collectively, pleasurable family occasions are also an important reason for preserving photographs.

"Following two high profile news articles on our new business model, (Popular Photography - Sept. 2006, The Orange County Register - Aug. 15, 2006), we got the idea to ask customers what motivated them to have us digitally archive their generations of family pictures that were previously stored in shoeboxes," explained Mitch Goldstone, president and CEO of 30 Minute Photos Etc. and ShoeboxReprints.com

According to 30 Minute Photos Etc. , topping the list of ten primary reasons why people want to scan pictures was divorce. "It turns out that the most common reason for scanning pictures is due to divorce and seeking to easily split up photos," explained Goldstone,. His company, ShoeboxReprints.com can instantly marry pictures to a digital CD before a divorce takes it away. And, according to Goldstone, "the only thing easy and inexpensive about divorce is deciding who gets the photos; for just $49.95, his company commercially scans up to 1,000 pictures in minutes."

Divorce, followed by funerals and anxieties over fading photos topped the list, according Goldstone, who is a well-known photo imaging industry leader and regular speaker at major photo industry conventions.

Three hundred and forty people were interviewed between September 20th - November 4th, 2006 for this study which identified the top ten reasons people scan pictures.

[Methodology. According to 340 consumers who were polled by 30 Minute Photos Etc. during Sept. 15th - Nov. 4th the top reason why they chose to have their entire shoeboxes of pictures commercially scanned was impending divorce.

One year ago today, the Irvine-Calif.-based retail photo center was the first to create and commercialize the Kodak i660 series scanner for high-speed production photo scanning through its website, ShoeboxReprints.com. The technology driving this high speed scanning was developed by the Eastman Kodak Company and its Document Imaging business.

Today, orders are received from across the nation. Every five-minutes the company can digitally preserve 750 pictures with its Kodak i660 series scanner. "These are precious memories that represent a family's history, so we race to carefully complete and mail back each order on the same business day," explained Goldstone, who is accustomed to speedy service.

Among the typical 30 Minute Photos Etc. customer profiles were two examples offered by Goldstone to explain how Kodak imaging scanners are helping to digitally preserve photographs. On a recent Saturday, one customer wheeled in nearly 19,000 pictures in 26 shoeboxes to their Irvine, Calif retail store. They scanned and had the order ready for pickup the following Monday morning. Another customer had them digitally archive about 6,000 family pictures to better protect their special memories. Afterwards, the customer learned that a relative had past away, so they packed up their laptop and digitally archived pictures, then flew back East for the funeral. By the time the plane landed, a pictorial memorial presentation was ready for sharing with the entire family. Most customers end up ordering additional products and photo services too.

30 Minute Photos Etc., founded in 1990, is regularly featured by the national media for its entrepreneurial innovations in the photo imaging industry. Company president, Mitch Goldstone will be on a panel titled "Photography Strikes Back!" at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on January 9th . The company is also lead plaintiff in the multi-billion dollar merchant interchange antitrust litigation against the credit card associations (Visa© and MasterCard©) and its member banks.
