NEW YORK, NY (PRWeb) December 14, 2006 -- BreakThru Radio (BTR), the Internet's voice of the World's Best Independent Music, welcomes Annie Russell to its growing staff as BTR's new Music Director. Fresh from Marist College where she served as Music Director at WMAR and completed her BA in Journalism, Russell brings a fresh perspective to an already savvy staff, further solidifying BTR's rising role in the music industry.

Russell, passionate about music from young age, brings her background as a classical violist and writing experience to BTR, serving the 5 million + listenership that the station receives each week. Her vast experience writing independent music reviews and her weekly radio show that took her college campus by storm made Russell a worthy choice.

BTR not only exposes listeners to new artists, but allows for the listener to control when and how they listen. I'm excited to lend my music experience to BTR, because I think this mission is an important one.
"Commercial radio doesn't give its listeners enough credit. They don't want to hear the same songs hour after hour, they want to be exposed to new artists from different genres," Russell explained. "BTR not only exposes listeners to new artists, but allows for the listener to control when and how they listen. I'm excited to lend my music experience to BTR, because I think this mission is an important one."

Russell is not the only one to join BTR's growing staff, as DJ Lottie has taken the reigns of Thursday's weekly show. DJ Lottie got her big break in radio at 90.7 WFUV under the direction of Rita Houston. After meeting and watching such favorite musicians as Patti Smith, Rufus Wainwright and Ben Folds, Lottie was hooked. Her weekly show features the best in independent music, a seamless addition to BTR's regular programming.

"There is so much good music out there just waiting to be listened to," DJ Lottie said. "I am so happy I have the opportunity to work for a station like BreakThru Radio that allows people all over the world to hear some of the most talented artists around!"

With playlists as extensive as our DJs across the country, listeners discover new artists on a daily basis. BTR plans to continue adding new specialty shows each week, including regional showcases and genre specific shows. With the addition of top-notch editorial content, independent video coverage, and worldwide show calendars, BTR puts everything a music fan needs and wants - in one place.
