ProDiag HD is an automotive diagnostic test tool designed with the professional mechanic in mind. It comes with an industrial RDA (Rugged Digital Assistant) running the reliable and easy-to-use Palm operating system. This IP67-compliant, hand-held device is waterproof and dustproof to stand up to the most demanding shop environments.
"Our ProDiag product has been very well received, but some professional mechanics wanted a rugged tool designed specifically to stand up to the repair shop environment. They also wanted a tool that would work with the very newest vehicles. We believe ProDiag HD is the tool they want," said Michael Durian, a Shade Tree Software co-founder.
ProDiag HD can communicate with vehicles using all the physical interfaces in use today: K-Line, J1850 (using Pulse Width Modulation or Variable Pulse Width) and even CAN (Controller Area Network) bus. CAN bus support is especially important as all vehicles must use CAN bus by 2008. Most diagnostics tools do not yet support the CAN bus.
ProDiag HD is a scalable tool. It comes with an OBD-II software module that can be used for power-train diagnostics on any 1996 or newer vehicle. The OBD-II module implements the full ISO-15031.5 specification and contains the complete ISO-15031.6 list of trouble code descriptions.
Other diagnostic modules are also available for ProDiag HD. Currently, Shade Tree Software offers the VAG (Volkswagen Automotive Group) diagnostic module designed specifically for VWs, Audis and other members of the VW family. The VAG module offers specialized functionality found in the VAS 5051 and 5052 VW factory tools. Angelo Campana, Director Technical Support Department of Euro-Diagnostic Resources, Inc. said, "I find that this software should be in every VW - Audi Technician's tool box."
Other specialized diagnostics modules are in development.
In addition to the top-of-the-line diagnostic modules, ProDiag HD facilitates record management with its print module. Users can save data such as DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) lists, test results and readiness status to memory and print them wirelessly using ProDiag HD's IrDA interface. The ProDiag HD device can display and print graphs of real-time data logs. These logs are useful for analysis and addition to customer files.
As Shade Tree Software co-founder Steve Eiche explained, "Technicians really like the print module. They can collect diagnostics from a car, point the ProDiag HD system at a compatible printer and immediately have a document detailing the vehicle's condition that they can show to a customer."
