To strengthen ethical standards and reinforce integrity in government, the board of directors of Kissimmee Utility Authority has adopted a code of business conduct and ethics for its directors and employees.

Kissimmee, FL (PRWEB) February 9, 2006 -- To strengthen ethical standards and reinforce integrity in government, the board of directors of Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) has adopted a code of business conduct and ethics for its directors and employees.

The ethics code strives to achieve the highest business and personal ethical standards by encouraging a culture of openness, trust, and integrity in all business practices. The code is also the basis of a mandatory training program at the utility that helps individuals learn how to apply core values in workplace situations.

"The adoption of this code reflects the board's continued commitment to promote best practices both inside and outside the utility," said KUA chairman Nancy Gemskie. "The code builds on existing internal practices to create an even higher level of accountability."

In addition, KUA has appointed an Ethics Compliance Counselor who is responsible for developing and carrying out organizational policies related to compliance, ethics and investigations. Employees and board members are encouraged to consult the counselor when confronting an ethical dilemma or needing an answer to an ethical question.

"We owe it to our customers to develop codes of conduct that represent the core values of our community," said KUA president and general manager Jim Welsh. "This code, combined with ongoing training, helps ensure that our employees understand how to incorporate these values into their everyday routines."

The new code of ethics is available online at www.kua.com/ethics.

Founded in 1901, KUA (www.kua.com) is Florida's sixth largest community-owned utility providing electric and telecommunication services to 170,000 residents in five Central Florida counties.
