As part of SSA’s commitment to developing the entire person during their training programs, they recently added nationally renowned speaker and broadcaster, Bob Rathbun, to their team of instructors. As an instructor, Rathbun won’t need a whistle or gym shorts when he teaches. He will help kids and parents in SSA’s On Court Player Development program as a motivator and teacher off the court.
Suwanee, GA (PRWEB) February 16, 2006 -- Imagine a place where sports development and character development went hand in hand, a safe environment where parents can feel good about sending their child to receive instruction from professionals that put each child’s well-being before winning. Believe it or not, this place exists and it might be just around the corner from you. The Suwanee Sports Academy (SSA) in Suwanee, Georgia provides basketball and volleyball programs along with speed, agility and quickness programs for grade school kids to professionals. Visitors to this 100,000 square foot facility should not be surprised to see NBA All-Stars training on one court while local first-graders learn the basics of basketball or volleyball on another court.
As a nationally recognized training facility, SSA prides itself on its unique approach to helping athletes beyond what transpires on the court. Whether you’re an elite athlete or a beginner, the approach is the same. “We have kids of all ages and skill levels come through our facility. We might do different drills with different kids, but we have the same approach with everyone. We treat them like a person or a child first and we use sports to teach them other lessons about life,” says SSA Director of Basketball, Kevin Cantwell.
As part of SSA’s commitment to developing the entire person during their training programs, they recently added nationally renowned speaker and broadcaster, Bob Rathbun, to their team of instructors. Rathbun, currently the signature voice for Fox Sports South, the play by play man for Major League Baseball’s Atlanta Braves and the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks, will play a not so traditional instructor role for SSA’s On Court Player Development program.
As an instructor, Rathbun won’t need a whistle or gym shorts when he teaches. He will help kids and parents in SSA’s On Court program as a motivator and teacher off the court. Rathbun has spent his entire career around some of the most respected athletes and coaches in sports and he regularly speaks to companies and organizations across America about leadership, teamwork, and personal growth traits.
“I am excited to be working with SSA parents and athletes. These kids are tomorrow’s leaders and I think as parents and adults we have an obligation to give them the encouragement and direction that kids don’t get today. There are so many great life lessons to be learned from sports, but I think our culture has lost focus on what is important in youth sports,” says Rathbun.
“Bob brings such a great value system to our organization. We are fortunate to have someone who has been around sports his whole life and is also such a gifted communicator. He has a great message for parents and kids, which goes way beyond what they are doing on the court,” adds Cantwell.
