Grenidea’s Agroresins Approved by the Biodegradable Products Institute

The Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) announced its approval of Grenidea’s AgroResinTM materials derived from renewable agricultural biomass. The BPI’s certification demonstrates that Grenidea’s products meet the specifications in ASTM D6868 and will biodegrade swiftly and safely during municipal or commercial composting.

New York, NY (PRWEB) February 20, 2006 -- The Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) announced it’s approval of Grenidea’s AgroResinTM materials derived from renewable agricultural biomass. The BPI’s certification demonstrates that Grenidea’s products meet the specifications in ASTM D6868 and will biodegrade swiftly and safely during municipal or commercial composting.

“We are pleased that our AgroResinTM products carry the BPI logo “stated Dr Xu Yan, Managing Director and Chief Technology Officer of Grenidea Technologies Pte Ltd. “Supermarkets are currently using our AgroResinTM trays for packing fresh produce and gaining BPI’s approval allow consumers to recognize that the packaging that comes with their fresh produce is biodegradable and compostable.” Dr Xu added. The BPI certification is only granted to products that meet either ASTM D6400 or ASTM D6868, based testing in approved, independent laboratories.

Compostable products are gaining popularity as the number of food scrap diversion programs continue to grow. “Residential and commercial food scrap programs are in place from San Francisco, CA to Prince Edward Island, Canada”, stated Steve Mojo, BPI Executive Director. By replacing ordinary plastic items with compostable products, such as those by Grenidea, these programs are able to divert and compost large parts of the waste stream, by simplifying separation and by helping composters improve product quality and reducing processing costs. “Products made from Grenidea’s AgroResinTM will continue to expand the array foodservice items that are certified", added Mojo. “As the BPI list grows, it will be easier to implement diversion programs, especially for supermarkets, sporting events and festivals.”
