The company’s comprehensive online local coverage of weather and news events during the period contributed to its third consecutive record traffic month.

Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) February 19, 2006 -- Internet Broadcasting, the nation’s first-ever national platform of TV station web sites, today announced a record 12.98 million online visitors for January 2006. The company’s comprehensive online local coverage of weather and news events during the period contributed to its third consecutive record traffic month. Internet Broadcasting co-produces NBCOlympics.com plus 73 TV station web sites for America’s premier broadcasters: NBC, Cox Broadcasting, Hearst-Argyle, McGraw Hill Broadcasting, Post-Newsweek, Scripps Howard, and Capitol Broadcasting Company.

The record 12.98 million visitors, as measured by Nielsen//NetRatings, exceeded the previous month’s high of 12.94 million visitors and places Internet Broadcasting ahead of notable news sites like NYTimes.com, USAToday.com, and Google News. Additionally, the record traffic made Internet Broadcasting the 46th largest online brand overall as measured by Nielsen’s U.S. brand rankings for January.

The record traffic was driven by a variety of news and weather events:

  • Several winter storms in the East and Midwest
  • NFL playoff-related stories and special coverage
  • Referral traffic to Internet Broadcasting produced AccessHollywood.com from MSNBC.com

“This third consecutive month of record traffic demonstrates the value we offer our visitors,” said Julie Burrows, Internet Broadcasting’s executive vice president. “Consumers are increasingly relying on trusted, local news sites for information that affects their daily lives. In addition, our explosive growth continues to catch the eye of blue chip online advertisers such as Sara Lee, AT&T, and Nationwide Insurance who want to reach consumers in a trusted environment.”

The visitor total represents an aggregation of users across Internet Broadcasting’s national platform of 73 TV station web sites including WNBC.com (New York), NBC4.tv (Los Angeles), and TheBostonChannel.com.
