Bryn Mawr, PA (PRWEB) February 20, 2006 -- The American College, the nation’s leading educator of financial service professionals, recently awarded its highest honor, the Huebner Gold Medal, to Thomas J. O’Haren, CLU®, ChFC®.

“His distinguished career at Connecticut General, a CIGNA predecessor company - and his dedication to The American College - have helped foster successful professional careers for thousands of men and women in the financial services industry,” said Larry Barton, PhD, President and Chief Executive Officer of The American College. “We are proud to add Tom’s name to our list of Huebner Gold Medal recipients. He has distinguished himself as both a champion of our institution and our noble profession.”

The Huebner Gold Medal is the highest honor bestowed by The American College and is named for the founder of The College, Dr. Solomon S. Huebner. The medal has been awarded annually since 1975 to honor those special few individuals whose support of the College and its programs, and whose dedication to education and professionalism, have been of particular meaning to the mission and progress of the institution.

The Huebner Gold Medal is one of many well-deserved accolades earned by O’Haren over the course of his distinguished career. In 1966, he became the branch manager of a scratch agency in Atlanta and earned his Chartered Life Underwriter™ (CLU®) designation from The American College. O’Haren earned his second designation from The College – the Chartered Financial Consultant™ (ChFC®) – in 1983.

His natural abilities and the education he received from The College helped him achieve career success. O’Haren’s organization received CIGNA’s Outstanding Agency Award 14 times in 20 years – a company record. His agency has qualified for the company’s Master Agency Award and National Management Award each year since the inception of these prestigious honors. In 1990, O’Haren received the John W. Yates Memorial Award for outstanding life insurance management from the Greater Los Angeles General Agents and Managers Association.

He served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the GAMA Foundation and is a life member of the Million Dollar Round Table, having earned Top of the Table status. In 1992, O’Haren was inducted into the GAMA Agency Hall of Fame; the highest honor bestowed by the General Agents and Managers Association.

O’Haren was always willing to give back to the College. He was a member of The American College leadership institute and an adjunct Professor of Insurance at the institution. O’Haren volunteered for numerous committees at The American College including the Certification Committee, the Development Committee and the Investment Committee. He also served with distinction as Chairman of The College’s Awards Committee.

During his long association with The College, O’Haren volunteered his time as Chairman of the Endowment Foundation Board of Directors; and provided support for The College as an ACE Endower, a member of the President’s Circle and served as a Golden Key role model.

O’Haren’s name will be added to the Huebner Gold Medal Recognition Wall located on The College’s campus in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. This wall includes the names of every medal recipient.
