Cellpup announces a new system for students to create and download flashcards to their cell phones—for free. This system allows students to create mobile flashcards on any subject that they can share with friends and study groups.

Berkeley, Calif., February 27, 2006 – Cellpup (www.cellpup.com) announced a new system to allow teachers and students to easily create electronic flashcards on the Cellpup Web site, download them to their phones, and share them with their classes and study groups.

Cellpup flashcard decks feature both multiple choice quiz and flip card modes and are easy to create and download to Web and Java-enabled cell phones from the Cellpup Web site, www.cellpup.com. Students and teachers can return to the site any time to edit, re-download, and share their decks—all for free.

can help teachers take advantage of a now-pervasive technology, and students make the most strategic use of their time.
Students learn best when they are actively involved in the process. Even before download, the act of making Cellpup decks deepens students’ engagement with the material, and sharing decks with classmates can strengthen study teams. Researchers report that, regardless of the subject matter, students working in small study groups tend to learn more of what is taught and retain it longer than those who work entirely on their own.*

“The Cellpup “Make-Your-Own” concept,” said Rose Castorina, Co-founder in charge of content and strategic partnerships, “can help teachers take advantage of a now-pervasive technology, and students make the most strategic use of their time.”

Cellpup taps into the way young people use cell phones in their daily lives—in the halls, on the bus, during brief windows of time—to help them memorize words, facts, and concepts and test their new knowledge.

Keys to the Cellpup concept, Ms. Castorina explained, are ease of use and entertainment value—both of which increase the likelihood of frequent exposure to new material—and thus its storage in long-term memory.

The Cellpup site also has pre-made decks available for download in a variety of subjects: Spanish, French, Italian, test preparation, citizenship, math, and more. “The goal is to help anyone memorize the essentials of whatever they’re learning—Spanish, SAT vocabulary words, or Chemistry—wherever they are—waiting in line, riding a bus, or in the back of their parent’s car,” said Ms. Castorina.

Why the name Cellpup? “Because puppies are smart, mobile, energetic, and learning all the time,” said Ms. Castorina.
