Spring Cleaning Self Storage Tips Make Your Chores Easier

Finding a self storage unit can be stressful when spring cleaning day is almost done and there are items that won't fit back in the garage. Reduce stress levels by getting that storage unit before it is needed. Then pack it according to how often items will need to come out.

Columbia, Missouri (PRWEB) February 22, 2006 -- Lots of people are thinking about getting their spring cleaning and spring yard work done. Many times people need a self storage unit to make the project complete. There are seasonal items to get out of the house. There are items that won’t get used, like the baby’s bedding and the dresser from grandmother’s house. Here are a few tips to make a self storage experience better.

1.   Get the storage unit before it is needed. Don’t wait until the last minute to go looking for a self storage unit. The spring-time is a very busy time and many self storage places sell out of many sizes and unit types. If one waits too long to find a unit, it may take a lot of calling, driving and looking around to find the right sized unit available. If one waits until Saturday afternoon at 5 o’clock to go and find a storage unit for the items that don’t fit back into the garage, it could be a stressful evening. It would be better to get a unit well before the project starts, so there is time to plan how to use the space. Once the unit is rented and has the renter's lock on it, it can be accessed at one's leisure. A lot of stress can be avoided by renting that storage unit early and getting it all prepared before the start of a project.

2.   Pack and stack according to when the items will be needed. Things that won’t come out of storage until the fall can go against one side wall. Things that may not be needed for years can go against the back wall. Items that might need to come out more frequently can go in the middle or towards the front. One can make much more efficient use of the space if a timeline plan is made and put into place. There is nothing worse than wasting time digging through a storage unit for a box or bag. It can save a lot of future stress to think ahead rather than just packing and jamming everything into the unit.

There is some great information on using self-storage and a very nice unit size estimator at www.storage-mart.com.
