A wildlife benefit, which includes live music, silent auction and raffle prizes, will aid research of the Northwest Merlin Falcon while educating the public. It is hosted by The Merlin Falcon Foundation and will take place on March 31 at the Wild Buffalo House of Music in Bellingham, Wash.
Bellingham, WA (PRWEB) March 16, 2006 -- The Merlin Falcon Foundation invites the public to its 3rd annual wildlife benefit on Friday, March 31 at the Wild Buffalo House of Music at 7 PM. The benefit includes a silent auction, raffle prizes and live music from David MacVittie, Anna Schaad and The Walrus. The benefit will aide research of the Northwest Merlin Falcon.
The enchanting Celtic acoustics of David MacVittie and Anna Schaad start the celebration at 7 PM. Regional wildlife and landscape artwork, photography and local business wares are up for bid at the silent auction from 8 to 9 PM. The Walrus provide much opportunity to dance and groove to songs by The Beatles and more from 9 PM to 12:30 AM. Raffle prizes will be given out during the breaks. Advance tickets may be purchased at Village Books, the Food Co-Op and wildbuffalo.net or at the door for $8 per student and $10 per adult.
The Merlin Falcon Foundation, in its third year, promotes the investigation of the Northwest Merlin and educates people about this raptor by involving them in its conservation stewardship. The Coastal Forest Merlin Project, in its 23rd year, conducts comprehensive surveys and networks with regional people to document Merlin presence, habitat and prey usage, behaviors, bio-ecology, migration routes and wintering habits.
"This project would not be possible without the interest and support of citizens around the region, for which we are very grateful," Founder and President David Drummond states. "No one has attempted a study of this scope and depth before, as it would be too costly and time consuming, but together we are discovering the secrets of this little known and enigmatic forest falcon."
Natural resource decision makers will soon have a new tool for better understanding this raptor's survival needs on this shared landscape.
The Merlin is a powerful and compact raptor that streaks like an arrow at speeds from 60-90 mph, hunting primarily perching birds and some aerial insects over and through the wooded land. They are 10-12" long with a 22-25" wingspan, chestnut brown or blue-backed and brown and white streaked on the front. Scant historical information is available about this amazing forest predator that helps maintain a healthy ecological balance in the environment.
The Merlin Falcon Foundation is providing the baseline research findings and educating the populace about this phantom falcon through our evolving web site, newsletter, brochures, bird fests, imaged educational classes, video and word of mouth.
Participation is essential to continue the Merlin research and educational outreach for children and adults of the regional community. Support takes on many fun forms like volunteering, interning, consulting and donating in the field, lab and computer venues on behalf of Merlin. All Team Merlin donations are tax deductible and are directly applied to their goal of insightful education.
