Bigger, Better, Ecycling Event in Birmingham

Largest Ecycling Day in the Southeast returns in one month for 2nd year -- corporate pledges accepted immediately.

Birmingham, AL (PRWEB) March 22, 2006 -- Building on last year’s phenomenal success, TechBirmingham Ecycling Day returns for its second year. The successful 2005 event resulted in over 75 tons of equipment being diverted from Alabama’s landfills. TechBirmingham expects the 2006 event to be even bigger and better.

Beginning immediately, corporations across central Alabama wishing to contribute equipment may visit EcyclingDay.org and complete an online Corporate Pledge form. Companies can allow 1-800-Got-Junk? to come collect the items in advance of the public drop-off day OR deliver their equipment to the Alabama Computer Disposal Group warehouse. There is no charge for this service, but companies are encouraged to make a small per-item donation to TechBirmingham to offset costs of running the public event.

The public is invited to start setting aside their unused electronics items today for recycling on Earth Day, Saturday, April 22, 2006. Residents from across the Birmingham region and beyond will be asked to deliver accepted items to designated, convenient collection locations on that date. Collection locations will be set and announced about ten days prior to the event and will also be shown on the TechBirmingham Ecycling Day website in advance of the event.

Electronic equipment in any condition (working, damaged, outdated) can be donated. The best collected items may be refurbished and find their way back into local area non-profits. All others will be properly recycled. Accepted items from corporations and the public include:

  • Desktop computers
  • Laptop computers
  • Computer monitors
  • Mainframes/Midranges
  • Keyboards and input devices
  • Printers and Scanners
  • Fax machines and Copy machines
  • Digital cameras
  • PDAs and handheld devices
  • Video Game systems
  • Printer cartridges
  • Cell phones

Absolutely no televisions or “white goods” (kitchen appliances, microwaves, etc.) can be accepted. For other household hazardous items, the public is encouraged to visit the Jefferson County Household Hazardous Waste Day, also scheduled for Saturday, April 22, at one of their four municipal locations.

Early supporters of this year’s effort include:
