This April Fools Day, ‘Fire" Your Boss?

Badbossology.com and DDI survey found that workers say they would can their boss for lack of integrity and micromanagement.

Pittsburg, PA (PRWEB) March 30, 2006 -- Workers may not be fooling around when they joke about firing their bosses this April Fool’s Day, according to Development Dimensions International’s (DDI) research with Badbossology.

In fact, workers jumped at the chance (with nearly double the response as previous questions) to weigh in on this hot topic about why they would give their boss the boot in a recent online survey at www.badbossology.com, where 1,062 workers responded to the query: “I would fire my boss for:” with five possible answers.

The number one answer with 32 percent of the responses was lack of trust and/or integrity. “While the prospect of firing your boss may be amusing, these are responses from frustrated workers,” Rich Wellins, Senior Vice President at DDI explains. “Bosses need to take a look at where they are falling short and make some changes in how they relate to their teams.”

Another 24 percent cited micromanagement, and ‘not providing open feedback’ and ‘lack of opportunities to grow,’ tied with 12 percent of the responses each. Another 10 percent answered ‘taking credit for the ideas and work of others’ and 8 percent said ‘not giving me coaching support when I need it.

“Firing these bosses may be a drastic action—instead workers need to provide their bosses with feedback about what will make them better leaders,” Wellins said. “Poor people skills may not cost the boss their job, but it is costing them the confidence of their teams.”

A follow-up survey question asks, "How would you rate your ability to protect yourself from a bad boss?" This question's five potential answers along with results to date are available at: www.badbossology.com.
