Independent Writers of Chicago (IWOC) Releases Results of New Rate Survey for Freelance Writers

Independent Writers of Chicago (IWOC), the largest freelance writers' organization in the Midwest, releases results of new rate survey for freelance writers. Results reveal average rates for writing and editing services, how those rates have changed since the last survey, and information on business practices. Benefits of the survey and IWOC extend not only to freelancers, but also to all those who hire writers and editors.

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) April 7, 2006 -- Freelance writers and editors can earn an average of $85 to $140 per hour working from their home or on-site at a client’s office, according to the 2005 rate survey completed by members of the Independent Writers of Chicago (IWOC).

Since the last survey in 2000, the average hourly rate of compensation overall has risen by 16%. For some specific types of work, the increases are more dramatic. For example, the average hourly rates received for writing print ads and annual reports have gone up by 104% and 36%, respectively.

The survey also includes information on IWOC members’ background, experience, and business practices.

The rate survey’s benefits extend to all those who hire writers and editors. Members use this tool to keep their prices competitive and their operations state-of-the-art. The IWOC Web site provides businesses inside and outside of Chicago easy access to professional talent, allowing them to search the membership directory by specialty, link directly to members’ individual Web sites, and post part- and full-time jobs on the Writers’ Line.

IWOC is a nonprofit professional association of freelance writers who work primarily throughout the Chicago metropolitan area. IWOC members serve large corporations, small businesses, and not-for-profit organizations; together they represent a broad range of writing talents and specialties. For additional information, or to learn more about IWOC, call 847-855-6670 or visit www.iwoc.org.
