Winner of PicksPal.com’s Hoops 1001 Contest Crushes the Competition

Like the NCAA championship game, PicksPal.com’s unique tournament bracket contest was a total blowout.

Mountain View, CA (PRWEB) April 6, 2006 -- Like Florida did against UCLA, the winner of the Hoops 1001 Contest blew out the competition in PicksPal.com’s unique college hoops bracket , amassing over 111 million points en route to winning a 42-inch flat panel HDTV.

Zach Wesseling of Indianapolis, known as ZachersCrackers at PicksPal.com, was already leading the Hoops 1001 Contest by over 41 million points heading into Monday’s college championship game. He could have sat on the lead and claimed the grand prize, but instead he risked his otherwise insurmountable lead and doubled his point total – beating the first runner up by over 100 million points.

My brothers turned me on to PicksPal.com a few months ago and I really enjoyed the challenge of trying to predict the games
“The better I did the more time I put into it. It really made following the tournament so much fun,” said Zach, who estimates he spent over an hour a day preparing his picks and analyzing the games. “Since the results of the games were so unpredictable most of my picks were the safe prop picks such as the top scorers, number of players in double figures and assists leaders for the games. Those statistics were more predictable and consistent with the season averages.”

Wesseling was able to accumulate such a large point total despite all the surprises and upsets in this year’s college basketball tournament because of the Hoops 1001 Contest’s unique format. Unlike traditional brackets, PicksPal.com’s contest did not force players to pick every game before the beginning of the tournament. Instead, players received 5000 points each round to play on their choice of any game’s winner, over/under or a variety of fun and exotic props.

The Hoops 1001 Contest also rewarded the winner of each round with an iPod and the overall winner with a 42-inch flat panel HDTV, which is where Wesseling will be watching next year’s NCAA tournament.

But Zach won’t be watching alone – it seems the rest of the Wesseling family has also been blessed with the gift of sports knowledge. Zach’s brothers Joel and Luke have each won iPods from PicksPal.com by reaching more than 1 million points during the sports picks site’s weekly contest. The Brothers Wesseling not only use PicksPal.com to win prizes, they also use it to fuel their sibling rivalry by tracking their picks in leagues and 1-on-1 challenges featured on the site. In essence, the Wesselings are now the royal family of PicksPal, much like what the Mannings are to the NFL.

“My brothers turned me on to PicksPal.com a few months ago and I really enjoyed the challenge of trying to predict the games,” said Zach, “Baseball is really my favorite sport so I can’t wait to get started picking the baseball games at PicksPal.com.”

With the conclusion of the Hoops 1001 Contest, players of PicksPal.com’s weekly contest can now focus on MLB picks , including live in-game picks such as “Will there be a double in the 7th inning” or “Will a pitcher with nine strikeouts get his tenth?” Players can also choose from NBA picks and The Masters golf tournament on their quest for prizes and fantasy sports glory. It will be interesting to see if the Wesselings can continue their dominance with the baseball season underway and the basketball playoffs right around the corner.
