University Students Rave About "Cry Wolf"

The graphic novel "Cry Wolf"was extremely well received by the students at the University of New Mexico’s English 220 class this past semester. According to the class instructor, Cassandra Amundson, the students raved about this period novel and its in-depth look at the life of a werewolf during Chicago’s Prohibition era.

Albuquerque, NM (PRWEB) April 10, 2006 -- The novel was chosen by the university to be included as part of a writing class about the myths and legends of lycantrophy through the ages. "Cry Wolf" is the first in a series of four novels with book two, “Ghost of Sijan,” due for release in June 2006 by publisher Open Book Press.

Ms. Amundson also commented that many of her students were not familiar with the “woodcut” style of artwork that was so very popular in the early part of twentieth century America. Upon further investigation, however, the students were amazed at just how accurate the book’s illustrator was able to capture the look and feel of that particular style of artwork. Ms. Amundson continued by saying how much her students enjoyed the way Crill was able to separate the villainous wolf of traditional folklore and transform that tainted image into something a bit more heroic.

“Perhaps it’s the simplicity of both the story and artwork that makes our book so appealing to the average reader,” said author Doug Crill. “Yet we base the "Cry Wolf" series on the very complex research of cultural myths and legends as presented by the renown investigator Joseph Campbell,” adds Crill. “His work, along with our own, personal research into various religious symbolisms, has made "Cry Wolf" unique in its field,” explained the author.

Unique, indeed, as book one has already gained international recognition with its acceptance into the prestigious Lakewood Library in Lakewood, Ohio. The ComicFanatic, a well-known comic book review source, selected the book as one of the best graphic novels of 2005. Because of this type of media attention, the book was given away to celebrities at this year’s American Music Awards. The student bookstore at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, recently sold out of the book in a matter of hours.
