Setting Up For Earth Day Electronics Recycling

Locations announced for 2006 TechBirmingham Ecycling Day event.

Birmingham, AL (PRWEB) April 15, 2006 -- With seven days remaining until this year’s TechBirmingham Ecycling Day, the region’s citizens are anxious to hear about the drop off locations for the event on Saturday, April 22. The public should set aside their unused electronics items today for recycling and deliver accepted items to designated, convenient collection locations on that date.

Today, TechBirmingham is announcing this year’s twelve (12) convenient locations for dropping off unused computing equipment. On Saturday, between the hours of 9am and 4pm, volunteers will be on hand at these locations to unload computers from the public’s vehicles and load the donations into Enterprise Rent-a-Trucks for eventual transport to a consolidation warehouse where the equipment will begin the refurbishment or recycling process. Everyone donating equipment will receive a receipt for tax purposes.

The locations for the April 22, 2006 event are:

  • Vulcan Park - 1701 Valley View Drive, atop Red Mountain, Birmingham
  • BellSouth - 55 Bagby Drive, near I-65 exit 256, Birmingham/Homewood

Corporate Birmingham has already been hard at work clearing out their storage rooms and warehouses, providing the TechBirmingham Ecycling Day effort with unused computers, monitors, printers, and cell phones. 1-800-Got-Junk? in Birmingham and Alabama Computer Disposal Group have partnered with TechBirmingham to collect these items from corporations in the metro area and will continue to pick up pledges throughout the month of April.

Electronic equipment in any condition (working, damaged, outdated) can be donated. The best collected items may be refurbished and find their way back into local area non-profits. All others will be properly recycled. Accepted items from corporations and the public include:

  • Desktop computers
  • Laptop computers
  • Computer monitors
  • Mainframes/Midranges
  • Keyboards and input devices
  • Printers and Scanners
  • Fax machines and Copy machines
  • Digital cameras
  • PDAs and handheld devices
