National Speed Sport News Ranks the World's Best Racers, April 22, 2006

Each week, National Speed Sport News, America’s weekly motorsports authority for over 70 years, ranks the best drivers from all motorsports. This week’s listing has Fernando Alonso, Sebastien Bourdais and Melanie Troxel, the best female racer in the world, in the top three spots.

Harrisburg, NC (PRWEB) April 22, 2006 -- Fernando Alonso from Formula 1 held onto his spot as the best racer in the world, according to National Speed Sport News. In the weekly paper’s Power Rankings, Alonso held the top spot ahead of Sebastien Bourdais from Champ Car and Melanie Troxel from NHRA Top Fuel. Each week the paper at http://www.NationalSpeedSportNews.com ranks the Top 10 drivers from all forms of motorsports based on points standings and their performance at the track.

Top Fuel driver Melanie Troxel held onto third after appearing in the finals five times in all five races. NASCAR and NHRA remain the only two series represented by more than one driver.

1). Fernando Alonso, Formula 1. Alonso has two victories and a runner-up finish heading to the San Marino Grand Prix April 23.
2). Sebastien Bourdais, Champ Car World Series. Bourdais spent the week testing at Portland (Ore.) Int’l Raceway.
3). Melanie Troxel, NHRA Top Fuel. Troxel has been to the finals at all five events this season and leads the NHRA Top Fuel standings.
4). Jimmie Johnson, NASCAR Nextel Cup. After an 11th-place finish at Texas, Johnson hopes to rebound this week at Phoenix Int’l Raceway.
5). Dan Wheldon, Indy Racing League. Wheldon returns to the track for the IRL’s only overseas
race Saturday at Japan’s Twin Ring Motegi.
6). Ron Capps, NHRA Funny Car. Capps will wait another week until the NHRA returns to action April 28-30 at Bristol, Tenn.
7). Tony Stewart, NASCAR Nextel Cup. Stewart finished third in a dirt-late-model event at Eldora Speedway in Ohio.
8). Dave Steele USAC, TBARA. Steele was seventh in a TBARA sprint-car race at Bronson Motor Speedway in Florida.
9). Steve Kinser, National Sprint Tour. Kinser came home third as the National Sprint Tour visited Outlaw Motor Speedway in Oklahoma.
10). Donny Schatz, World of Outlaws Sprint Series. Schatz retained the World of Outlaws Sprint Series point lead with a 10th-place finish.

Kevin Harvick stretched his point lead with his first Busch Series triumph of the year. Harvick also ranks ninth in Nextel Cup Series points.
