My mother (and partner!) has loved and collected Vintage Bakelite Jewelry for over 40 years and has done numerous lectures on Bakelite jewelry.
Bakelite Jewelry was sold in the 1930's and 1940's in US department stores such as Sears, Saks, B. Altman, and Bonwit Teller. Notable Art Deco Designers such as Van Cleef and Arpel, Chanel and Lalique even designed jewelry items using this material. Even the Royal Yacht Britanna had furnishings using Bakelite trim! Nancy Cunard of the Cunard Steamship Lines, could be seen wearing armloads of bakelite bangles!
