Liberals Attack Book of Hillary Clinton Quotes

Liberals assail new Hillary Clinton quote book “I’ve Always Been a Yankees Fan.” New York Times backtracks on its own coverage, while “Bushisms” editor and Clinton's spokesman go on the attack. Author and publisher stand by the book, which chronicles Hillary's outrageous claims and flip-flops.

Washington, DC (PRWEB) April 24, 2006 -- Liberals have been swift to denounce a new book of Hillary Clinton quotes, with even the New York Times backtracking on its prior coverage. The author and publisher stand by the book, however, and have issued a challenge to the book's left-wing critics.

"I've Always Been a Yankees Fan: Hillary Clinton in Her Own Words" (World Ahead Publishing; paperback: $12.95; ISBN 0974670189), compiled by Thomas D. Kuiper, features a cover image of New York's junior senator wearing a Chicago Cubs hat. The book just hit stores earlier this month, but it has already come under fire from a number of liberal sources.

Slate editor and “Bushisms” author Jacob Weisberg attacked the book on CNN, liberal journalist David Brock's Media Matters website has relentlessly criticized the book's sources, and the multi-millionaire senator's spokesman scoffed at the book in a New York Times article. And yesterday the Times -- a liberal newspaper -- issued an awkward retraction of the prior article, going to great lengths to explain that Hillary claims to have been a fan of both her hometown Cubs and the Yankees, while also apologizing for not stating at the beginning of the article that liberals dispute some of its sources. (The caveat appeared in the second half of the article.)

“Liberals are attacking this well-researched and thoroughly documented quote book with vigor because it paints a devastating profile of Hillary Clinton as a crass and power-hungry politician,” says Eric M. Jackson, president of World Ahead Publishing. “It is 160 pages long and contains over 400 clearly cited quotations from dozens upon dozens of varied sources. Thomas Kuiper did his homework and it's obvious that Senator Clinton's acolytes are attempting to attack him because they're terrified of this book.”

“I compiled quotes from 63 books and over 100 different articles, so Hillary's apologists have their work cut out for them,” adds Thomas Kuiper, the book's editor. “Was Chris Matthews's statement that he saw Hillary make Secret Service agents carry her bags a lie? How about Hillary's widely quoted claim to be named after Sir Edmund Hillary, who climbed Mt. Everest years after she was born? Or her statement on Dateline that Chelsea was jogging near the World Trade Center on September 11th, a story which Chelsea herself later contradicted?”

In an interview with CNN last week, outspoken liberal Jacob Weisberg -- whose series of “Bushism” books chronicle innocent verbal gaffes by President George W. Bush -- took a shot at the Hillary quote book while making the incorrect claim that “Every single quote has the f-word in it.” Clinton's spokesman, Philippe Reines, also attacked the accuracy of the hundreds of quotes in “I've Always Been a Yankees Fan,” saying readers would be better served in reading Hillary's own books, including her autobiography -- “Living History” -- for which the former Wal-Mart board of directors member received an $8 million advance.

In contrast to the panicked response by liberals, several prominent Republicans have expressed enthusiasm for the book. Last week, New York City's ex-mayor Rudy Giuliani mocked Senator Clinton while invoking the book, saying, “There's that book that just came out…[it points out that one thing that Hillary and I do have in common: We're both Yankee fans.” And Dick Morris, a former advisor to Bill Clinton, writes in the book's foreword: “This wonderful little book will…make sure that Hillary's quotes and lies are not forgotten but come back to haunt her.”
