Smartpaper Networks, an innovative print to digital technology company, has signed a multi-year agreement with Somatic Digital to license its intellectual property to bring its products and solutions to the education market. This important licensing agreement adds strength to Smartpaper Network's existing agreements with Fisher Price and furthers the company's strategy to bring print to digital technology into a diverse set of markets.

Baltimore, MD (PRWEB) April 28, 2006 -- Smartpaper Networks, a developer of a unique technology platform integrating print and digital media, has signed a deal to license the company’s patented intellectual property to Somatic Digital, an innovative technology-based publishing platform company. The technology, which connects print and digital media with a touch of the finger, has been used to create Somatic Digital’s Touch User Interface (TUI) platform, which enables students to connect printed materials to digital content with the touch of a finger.

This agreement signals progress for Smartpaper Networks in its efforts to expand its licensing partners into key markets areas. The company has an existing license in place with Mattel Fisher Price for the use of its intellectual property in their InteracTV product, a children's educational toy platform.

“We are very excited that Somatic Digital has determined that our technology plays a key role in the development of their educational technology platform," said Daniel J. Radek, CEO of Smartpaper Networks. “It is clear that this technology will enhance learning across a range of student ages and abilities. Our partnership with Somatic Digital demonstrates the power of our patents in the special needs and general education markets, and we look forward to completing similar deals in other industries.”

Jason E. Barkeloo, President of Somatic Digital, comments on the transaction, “The license with Smartpaper Networks ensures that we can bring our technology to a diverse group of students, regardless of learning style, special needs or socioeconomic status. We are pleased to close this transaction and are looking forward to working with Smartpaper to bring this exciting technology into the broader education market.”

About Somatic Digital
Somatic Digital, LLC (www.somaticdigital.com) is a developer of the Touch User Interface (TUI) technology. The TUI technology connects paper directly to digital content that can reside on optical media, the Internet, or hard-drives. It enables a bridge over the digital divide because it eliminates barriers that previously prevented people from connecting to digital content. With the press of a finger, stylus or pointer, a physically, visually, or hearing impaired student can gain access to digital content.

The TUI technology enables publishers to not only create new hybrid products that directly connect to digital content through the paper; it also enables them to inclusively connect the special needs populations including Braille and auditory content for the blind, sub-captions and ASL for the hearing impaired, and a pointer for those with motor impairments. The multi-modal delivery system can help a publisher provide a National Instructional Materials Accessibility Standard (NIMAS), Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act, No Child Left Behind Act, and Section 504 solution at the time of product deployment.

About Smartpaper Networks
Smartpaper Networks, driven by the need and opportunity to address the missing link in the digital convergence, has developed the first technology to transform ordinary paper into a wireless control device, bringing printed pages to life by activating the power of video, audio, and/or the internet with the touch of a finger. The company’s core technology is strongly protected by 11 granted patents and has the potential for widespread applications within business, entertainment, education and the toy industries. Their business includes licensing their intellectual property as well as creating products derived from their patented technology, including SmartCover™, SmartBase™ and Smartpaper Studio™. Smartpaper Networks has offices in Baltimore, MD and Silicon Valley, CA. More information about the company can be found at www.smartpaper.net.
