(PRWEB) May 8, 2006 -- Airport Parking and Hotels (www.aph.com) has revealed the costs of using a mobile phone abroad to call the UK could be higher than the cost of a one-way flight*. Travellers can now log on to www.aph.com/news/mobile_charges.htm and check international mobile rates on the table before they fly. The information is designed to take the misery and often shock, out of the cost of calling from abroad on a mobile phone.

Airport Parking and Hotels (www.aph.com) has revealed the most expensive network is O2 where a call from Dubai to the UK can cost pay as you go customers as much as £19.90 for a ten minute call, more than a one way flight to Bilbao with easyJet! The same call with Virgin Mobile would cost a pay as you go customer £17.00. To receive the call would cost £9.90 with O2 or £8.00 with Virgin Mobile. Beware when sending a picture text instead of a postcard as it will almost certainly cost more than the price of the card and the stamp! Orange charge £1.50 to send a picture message from the USA while Vodafone charge £4.11 per mega byte plus 36p.

The table has been created to assist our customers and includes rates for five of the UK’s most popular destinations. Mobile phones are very convenient but consumers should think twice before dialling home or taking calls from a mobile phone while abroad. It is easy to rack up a large bill very quickly.
Nick Caunter, Managing Director, APH said: “The table has been created to assist our customers and includes rates for five of the UK’s most popular destinations. Mobile phones are very convenient but consumers should think twice before dialling home or taking calls from a mobile phone while abroad. It is easy to rack up a large bill very quickly."

However, it’s not all bad news for Brits abroad as there are additional savings available for very regular travellers. The international call saver (ITS) options cost an additional £30 - £36 per year and international call charges range from 14p-140p per minute as part of these options. To cover the additional cost of the service and benefit from savings customers must make a minimum of two hours of calls per year whilst abroad so need to be regular travellers or have a lot to say.

There is a great deal of confusion surrounding the cost of calling the UK while abroad. Consumers are uncertain how to guarantee they are getting the best deal. In most cases the mobile companies set fixed costs for calling from abroad however they do have preferred suppliers, Vodafone will pass on some of these savings to its customers however its minimum charges are still among some of the highest.

Airport Parking and Hotels Ltd (APH) has over 20 years’ experience as a retailer of pre-booked airport parking. It offers parking at 18 UK airports, ports and Eurotunnel terminals plus airport hotels packaged with parking, airport lounges, travel insurance, car hire and holiday taxis.
