May is “Date Your Mate Month” and an excellent opportunity to help you improve your game should you find yourself a little rusty at it. Canada’s Romance Agent Leona Hamel, who is also the author of The ABC’s of Tease & Please – A Romance Handbook (pen name LouLou L’Amour), stresses the importance and benefits of dating your mate. “No matter how many years you have been together as a couple, your relationship deserves the same kind of attention it received at the beginning,” emphasizes Hamel. She adds, “And if it’s been awhile since the two of you ‘dated,’ here is a wonderful means for the two of you to discover each other anew, rekindle the flame, and grow closer together. Here are some fun ideas to help you with your “dating” game:
1. Improve your swing and your partner’s too. Sign up for dance or golf lessons.
2. Consider volunteering together. Pick a service or organization which appeals to you both. My partner and I recently signed up to take part in the 13th annual “Spring Cleaning the Capital” campaign.
3. Have you checked your local newspaper’s community calendar of events for fairs, concerts, flea markets and garage sales? Many of us don’t realize all that’s happening in our community and are missing out on a number of enjoyable activities.
4. Be a tourist in your own city. Visit your local museums and outdoor markets. It’s amazing how many treasures are right under your very nose.
5. Do you remember your first date with your sweetheart? Does it bring back fond memories? If so, why not recreate it?
