Habana Outpost is a community based marketplace, design hub and eco-eatery in Brooklyn's colorful Fort Greene. The Outpost fosters a diverse and dynamic atmosphere bringing neighbors, earth lovers, and artists together in one collaborative courtyard

(PRWEB) May 4, 2006 -- Habana Outpost is the concept of Sean Meenan, the visionary owner of Nolita’s family-run cornerstone hotspot Café Habana. The Outpost is a creative incubator illuminating much of what makes New York special. It pays homage to old school Brooklyn traditions with one hand while promoting progressive innovations with the other.

The newest eatery throws convention to the wind offering Ft. Greene a breath of fresh air. Turning things inside out, Oscar Teco, (nephew of Alfredo, Teco Habana’s acclaimed chef) works his culinary magic from the canteen cookery style refurbished food truck. He crafts a mouthwatering, Latin-inspired menu including our famous Mexican style grilled corn, and local organic specials. Most of the Outpost’s seating is outside. Park yourself on an eco-friendly “Trex” recycled plastic picnic bench in the courtyard or sit and swing under the beautiful shimmery blue solar panel awning. Inside, graffiti legend Lee Quinones has recreated one of his Lower East Side originals (Howard the Duck, 1978). All other wall space rotates featuring local artists.

Did Somebody Say Green?
The Outpost is New York's first solar powered restaurant. The Brooklyn Lager you're sipping comes in a biodegradable cornstarch cup and the plates are crafted from sugar cane. The illuminations combine state-of-the-art energy efficient technology and the world’s oldest and most sustainable energy source, the sun. Sunlight collectors and a light pipe comprise the world’s first sunlit chandelier. You prepare your own fruit smoothie - with the help of our human powered bicycle blender. Where possible, reused building materials are sourced locally from the Build it Green Center in Queens, or made from eco-friendly composites like wheat-board. Worm-box composting, rainwater collection, and the transformation of our urban space into a patio paradise are additional pro-earth projects at The Outpost.

Promoting and Empowering Community
The Outpost embraces the community, acting as Fort Greene's new Zocalo. The weekend market links local artists, craftspeople, designers, and neighbors. In the Kids Corner young people enjoy our Alternative Hero coloring book which entertains and educates by empowering rather than overpowering. Free Sunday Under the Stars movie nights feature local filmmaker shorts followed by the best in world cinema. Fresh rotations of art, fashion, and live music make The Outpost a unique and unforgettable experience for everyone.
