Practicum Students at Boston University’s Center for Digital Imaging Arts (CDIA) partnered with Children’s Hospital Boston, Zumix and other Boston-area non-profit and socially responsible organizations to provide Photography, Web Design, Digital Filmmaking and 3D Animation productions. The Spring 2006 Practicum Screening, a celebratory event to showcase this work will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2006 in Studio C at CDIA’s Waltham MA campus from 3-5 PM.
Waltham, MA (PRWEB) May 5, 2006 -- Practicum Students at Boston University’s Center for Digital Imaging Arts (CDIA) partnered with Children’s Hospital Boston, Zumix and other Boston-area non-profit and socially responsible organizations to provide Photography, Web Design, Digital Filmmaking and 3D Animation productions. The Spring 2006 Practicum Screening, a celebratory event to showcase this work, will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2006 in Studio C at CDIA’s Waltham MA campus from 3-5 PM.
All CDIA students have an opportunity to participate in a Practicum production, giving them access to hands-on experience with an organization working to make a difference in Greater Boston. Students establish a partnership with a non-profit or socially responsible organization and provide quality digital media in the space of one month. This dynamic opportunity gives CDIA’s partner organizations access to the cutting-edge digital imaging arts technology used at CDIA.
“One of the core missions at CDIA is to create media that serves the community. The Practicum allows our students to use their skills to make a real impact in the world.” said Aimee Corrigan, Practicum Manager. Corrigan continued, “The digital age allows us to have an incredible production capacity and as communicators in an increasingly visual culture, we have new responsibilities. We’re constantly seeking partners for collaboration with our Practicum program. We’re telling stories that matter."
Corrigan offered a list of the Spring 2006 CDIA Production Practicum projects below:
CDIA Photography Practicum students provided documentary, event, portrait, landscape, lifestyle and still life photography for The Children’s Hospital: Oncology Unit, The North Shore YMCA, The Charles River Museum of Industry, Handshouse Studios, Zumix, The Brookline Senior Center, Charles River Editions, The Hill House, The Haley House, The Dance Complex and Community Boating.
Web Design Practicum students redesigned web sites and created microsites and print materials for Zumix, The ARC, GoMango, The Ellie Fund, Troubadour, Inc., Charles River Editions and Lightspace Corporation.
Digital Filmmaking Practicum students worked on crews led by professional filmmakers to produce documentaries for The Children’s Hospital, Zumix and Project Joy.
3D Animation Practicum students are working on a year long project with Children’s Hospital to produce a cartoon/animation that explains what cancer is and illustrates the experience of undergoing treatment. This piece will be used as a resource and made available to all patients and families affected by childhood cancer.
