T-Shirt Designed to Challenge Popular Use of the N-word

tmacskates.com, an online t-shirt boutique sells controversial t-shirts to challenge the use of the n-word in popular culture.

New York, NY (PRWEB) May 7, 2006 -- tmacskates.com, an online boutique established in April 2005 by TL McClendon will be selling its signature anti-slur, “igger” t-shirts at the BAM Dance Africa Bazaar over Memorial Day weekend, May 27 – May 29. The t-shirts, designed to take the sting out of the n-word by giving it an unexpected beginning, are available in soft, pastel colors for women: pink, baby blue, and lime; and in basic black and white tanks. For men, heather and burgundy ringer tees are available as well as black and white tanks. All the designs are printed on American Apparel, sweatshop free, 100% cotton tees made in the USA.

Each shirt has “igger” subtly silk screened on the front, and on the back is the unexpected beginning, either a B , an R or a struck through N , using graphics inspired by the New York City transit system maps and signs.

“Damon Wayans is trying to trademark ‘nigga’ for a clothing company,” says McClendon, “while the word is still being used in its historical, inflammatory context. It’s time to challenge the popular use of a word that has had in the past, and still has, very strong negative connotations and consequences, rather than glorify it. These t-shirts are designed to take the bite out of hate crime.”
