Gary Colquhoun Joins SPIE Europe

SPIE—The International Society for Optical Engineering is pleased to announce the addition of Gary Colquhoun as the SPIE Europe Industry Services Liaison.

Bellingham, WA; Cardiff, UK (PRWEB) May 11, 2006 -- SPIE—The International Society for Optical Engineering is pleased to announce the addition of Gary Colquhoun as the SPIE Europe Industry Services Liaison.

Colquhoun comes from an academic background in optoelectronics and laser engineering. Building on a technical knowledge-base in optoelectronics, math and engineering, Colquhoun’s seven years of industrial experience in advanced optoelectronics and product development and a further two in economic development as part of the Scottish Enterprise Micro and Opto Electronics Team, make him a welcome addition to the SPIE Europe team.

With direct relevance to technology transfer, he has facilitated on a number of ‘proof of concept’ research programs, including Gas Cloud Sensing and Microflluidic Optical Sorting. Furthermore, he has conceived and implemented a technology transfer program to allow small to medium enterprises to effectively engage with academics across technology boundaries.

Some of the many duties Colquhoun will be spearheading for SPIE Europe include: identifying the key optics and photonics industry organizations, associations and companies in Europe and key contacts within these organizations; developing new business opportunities for SPIE Europe exhibitions, with a focus on targeted growth of existing exhibitions and new exhibitions, and identifying new exhibition event opportunities; and increasing SPIE’s overall corporate database of European entities with new company emphasis in the following areas: biomedical/biophotonics, nanotechnology, sensors, defence, displays, illumination/Solid State Lighting.
