Youth baseball and softball season is in full swing, and so are injuries. Dr. Longobardi advises that coaches, parents & athletes educate themselves about potential injuries. An excellent resource available from the American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine.
(PRWEB) May 13, 2006 -- One of the most familiar signs of spring is seeing children and adults take to the field for a long-awaited “opening day” of the baseball and softball seasons. This fun-filled time of year affords the young and older a much-needed opportunity to shed their layers of winter clothing, and enjoy the healthy, active lifestyle that spring sports offers. Dr. Raphael Longobardi, of the University Orthopaedic Center, P.A., in Hackensack, NJ, cautions athletes of all ages to educate themselves about the potential injuries that baseball and softball sports can cause.
Whether you’re an athlete, coach or concerned parent, it’s important to understand ways to prevent and manage any form of baseball or softball injury should it occur. Dr. Longobardi advises athletes, coaches and parents to be aware of new or recurring injuries that can be caused by overuse, and stresses that the most common athletic injuries are caused by simply “overdoing it.” That is why, Dr. Longobardi, as a member of the American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine (AOSSM) would like to take this opportunity to recommend an extremely relevant handbook written by the AOSSM which discusses the “Prevention and Emergency Management of Youth Baseball and Softball Injuries”. This is a free, downloadable document that no coach or parent should be without. The document can be downloaded via Dr. Longobardi’s website by visiting www.universityorthopaedic.com.
