Sidney's Closet Helps Pioneer the 'Mommy Rep' Program

Sidney’s Closet and other mom-based businesses find success with Mommy Reps.

(PRWEB) May 16, 2006 -- So you are a “Momprenuer”. You have a great idea or product and a solid business plan, but you lack the sales and networking skills to market it. Or maybe you're just so busy developing your product, you have no time to sell it. Sounds like you need a Mommy Rep.

Both reasons led Sidney's Closet, an online business selling handmade fashion accessories for moms and babies, to start a Mommy Rep program. Also, Ashlee Cooper, President of Sidney’s Closet, says she was frustrated by traditional market reps. “I would give free samples to reps and get little result” says Cooper. “Market reps are selling to stores at wholesale price and then taking a percentage. I was left with only 35% of my retail price in revenue. These numbers just didn’t work for a small company selling handmade items.” So, in late 2005 Sidney’s Closet began thinking of ways to solve this problem. And the Mommy Rep program was born.

Mommy Reps purchase a minimum amount of product at wholesale price, sell it at retail and keep the difference in profit. With incentives and marketing material provided by Sidney’s Closet, Mommy Reps can set their own earning goals. Leslie Gorman is Vice President of Sidney’s Closet and is responsible for maintaining and growing the Mommy Rep program. “For someone who likes accessories, enjoys visiting with friends, the Mommy rep program is perfect. You have the opportunity to socialize while promoting a beautiful line that is well-made, classy and fun” Gorman says. She also adds "The Program affords the reps to choose how they want to run their business. They can turn it into a big business opportunity or keep it as a hobby, whatever works with their lifestyle and schedule."

The Mommy Rep concept is catching on. “I know of other Momprenuers starting up similar programs and finding success” Cooper says. “I am thrilled to collaborate with other women business owners like myself and help them grow their own programs” says Sidney’s Closet President. Like Baby Cappelli owner Jamie Wells who recently started a successful Mommy Rep program for her line of handmade hats for infants and toddlers.

For Sidney’s Closet, the Mommy Rep program is growing rapidly with no signs of slowing down. “The possibilities for this program are endless and we are excited to watch it grow” Cooper Says. So look for a Mommy Rep in your town. She’s bound to be wearing a fabulous Sidney’s Closet accessory and a smile on her face!
