Spam Blockers Ground British Round the World Pilot in GOOFY

Content blockers stop British Round the World Pilot telling his friends about his wing name program. Pilot Steve Wood is promoting Flying Scholarships for the Disabled on his record setting round the world flight. Wood will be attempting the first ever round the world flight with an auto-engined airplane, Spirit of Endeavour. The flight is scheduled to start in August setting a new world flight record from New York to New York.

Daytona Beach, FL (PRWEB), June 10, 2006 -- Spam and content blocking programmes have stopped British round the world pilot Steve Wood from telling his friends about his milehigh wing name promotion to raise money for his record setting round the world flight promoting the Flying Scholarships for the Disabled Charity.

Wood explained “Friends tell me that my messages are not getting through to them because they included the words ‘mile high’ which activates content blocking software”.

MileHighNames.com was chosen to promote Wood’s wing name offer where supporters can donate £30 or $50 and get their name on his world flight airplane Spirit of Endeavour as it flies around the world . It seemed simple - the airplane flies at least a mile high and so do the names!

Wood’s airplane is affectionately known as ‘Goofy’ from its unique registration N-600FY, which on the airplane looks just like ‘Goofy’.

The airplane’s official name is Spirit of Endeavour as a tribute to the world’s greatest navigator Capt James Cook and to the astronauts of the space shuttle Endeavour. Wood is, like Cook, a Yorkshireman but also has a special connection with the Space Coast in Florida as this is where ‘Goofy’ is based.

Wood says “watching the launch of the space shuttle Endeavour from the VIP viewing area made me realise that Spirit of Endeavour would be an ideal name for a record setting world flight airplane”.

So milehigh names has to go and in its place Wood will use Your Name in Space - http://yournameinspace.net - for his wing name promotion to link with the Endeavour connection. Whilst the names will not quite be in space orbit they will be a lot closer to space than on the ground as Wood plans to fly over three miles high at times!

Long distance flying is nothing new to Wood as in 2005 he became the first British pilot to fly a homebuilt airplane around the four corners of the USA - 10000 miles in 10 days - http://fourcornersflight.com. In August he plans to fly the first ever round the world flight in an auto-engined airplane and will also attempt to set a new FAI round the world flight record from New York to New York.

Invitations for Spirit of Endeavour to appear at major air shows in the UK and USA have been flowing in and Wood has bookings at 12 air shows, including the prestigious Dayton airshow at the birthplace of aviation, Dayton Ohio - see airshow bookings: http://adventureofflight.org/air_shows.htm ‘Goofy’ already has a place in aviation history as it received its airworthiness certificate on the day of the 100th anniversary of flight - 17 Dec 2003.

Wood says “the airplane took seven years to build and the challenge to get it completed for the 100th anniversary of flight was daunting enough, but I’m now realising how much of a challenge to fly solo around the world in an airplane you have built yourself really is”. Only 10 pilots have ever flown around the world in a homebuilt airplane and no homebuilt STOL aircraft has ever been flown around the world.

A member of Rotary eClub 7890 - http://rotaryeclub7890.org .- Wood has been invited to make presentations to Rotary clubs on his world flight route, including Dubai, Brisbane and New Zealand.

Wood’s flight is being made to promote the UK and US charities Flying Scholarships for the Disabled.- http://www.toreachforthesky.org.uk Queen Noor of Jordan is Patron of the UK charity which was established in memory of the world war II air ace Sir Douglas Bader - His aim is to raise $1m for the FSD charities in the UK, USA and their sister charity Wheelies with Wings in Australia.

Wood says “Flying Scholarships for the Disabled challenges the disabled to achieve new goals in life through flying, something which many thought impossible until they were offered the challenge”. FSD has provided scholarships for over 200 disabled people in the UK in recent years.

Wood’s airplane is a homebuilt GlaStar has been fitted with a 220 hp supercharged Subaru auto-engine specially for the round the world flight - the first ever fitting of this engine in a GlaStar airplane. For the Four Corners Around America flight a traditional 125 hp aero engine was fitted.

Wood is following in the footsteps of his friend and mentor, Polly Vacher MBE, who flew around the world twice promoted Flying Scholarships for the Disabled. Polly has now stopped flying around the world so Wood is taking over the challenge, but this time in a homebuilt airplane built by the pilot.

Wood aims to be the first British pilot to fly around the world in an aircraft built by the pilot.
