National History Day, Inc. awards the 2006 Corporate Leadership Award for outstanding corporate leadership in history education to ABC-CLIO.

College Park, MD (PRWEB) June 10, 2006 -- National History Day (NHD) will present ABC-CLIO with the 2006 Corporate Leadership Award for its outstanding corporate leadership in advancing and promoting history education.

The Corporate Leadership Award is presented to a company that has shown exemplary leadership in promoting and enhancing history education in the United States. ABC-CLIO CEO Ron Boehm will accept the award at the 2006 NHD Awards Ceremony at the University of Maryland Cole Field House on June 15.

ABC-CLIO is being recognized for its commitment to produce innovative learning materials and teacher resources for history education. A premier history publisher for over 50 years, ABC-CLIO has received critical acclaim for enhancing history research, teaching, and learning through its critically acclaimed abstracting and indexing databases, award-winning book program, and innovative online resources.

Each year, millions of students across the U.S. are experiencing history personally, and connect their own lives to the great lives and events of the past thanks to ABC-CLIO’s support of NHD.

ABC-CLIO is sponsoring the new NHD “Making History” series of five workbooks that will help educators incorporate historical inquiry into curricula and provide step-by step resources to guide students in developing NHD projects. In addition, ABC-CLIO partnered with NHD to create the Triumph and Tragedy in History series of teacher resource books, which provide primary and secondary sources as well as dynamic classroom activities aligned to the 2007 National History Day theme. More information on the published material is available at http://www.abc-clio.com/schools.

These materials exemplify ABC-CLIO’s commitment to provide students with historical material that both celebrates and challenges our concept of the national heritage. NHD is proud to recognize ABC-CLIO for combining quality research with active learning that brings the excitement of lively history and participatory civics into the classroom.

“Our partnership with ABC-CLIO provides teachers with materials that help them succeed in the classroom and encourages students to explore their history,” Cathy Gorn, executive director of NHD said. “We are appreciative of ABC-CLIO’s expertise and contributions to enhancing the NHD program.”

“It’s an honor to receive the National History Day Corporate Leadership Award,” said Becky Snyder, President and Schools Publisher of ABC-CLIO. “Our partnership with National History Day is one way ABC-CLIO works to enhance social studies education for secondary students and teachers. We are pleased to be recognized for our contribution to National History Day’s success.”
