Not only does the Victorian Society in America mark their 40th anniversary, but a new market has recently emerged that places a focus on the Victorian era and all that it embodies.

(PRWEB) June 12, 2006 -- The Victorian Society in America (http://www.victoriansociety.org), a group whose purpose is to foster public appreciation and understanding of the artistic expression of the Victorian Era including its architecture, fine and decorative art and design, will mark its 40th anniversary this year. Since its founding in 1966, the Society has been a leader in the appreciation, education, and preservation of America’s extraordinary nineteenth century heritage. The Society’s web site hosts a calendar of events that attests to the nation-wide popularity of Victoriana.

Over the past several years, there has been a rapid growth in the popularity and interest in all things Victorian. The appeal of this extraordinary era in history is far reaching. Some are fascinated with the history of the reign of Queen Victoria, who she was, and the times when she ruled.

On the other hand, some are intrigued with the conflicted morality of the Victorian Society that didn’t always practice what it preached. But, largely, the public’s major interest in Victoriana has to be their appreciation and love of the very distinctive and ornamental style of the era, of the architecture, furnishings, art, and jewelry of the time.

Not only does the Victorian Society in America mark their 40th anniversary, but a new market has recently emerged that places a focus on the Victorian era and all that it embodies. Interest in all things Victorian has increased to such an extent that many enterprising companies have sprung up on the World Wide Web, selling Victorian related items to meet the diverse needs of this growing group. This new market consists of people that want reproduction accessories and furnishings to decorate their newly restored Victorian homes. With the popularity of Victorian tea groups and societies, reproduction jewelry and fashion accessories are also in demand.

One such internet business that is filling the public’s demand for beautiful Victorian related objects is Victoria’s Jewelry Box (http://www.victoriasjewelrybox.com), an Oregon based company that sells Victorian jewelry and Victorian fashion accessories and gifts to discerning collectors and Victoriana enthusiasts.

Owner, Joanmarie Moccia, has been designing heirloom quality Victorian style jewelry for over 15 years and has seen a steady rise in the demand for authentic reproduction Victorian items. Because of this demand, Joanmarie is constantly adding to her extensive inventory with unique old-fashioned “new” pieces. One such new addition to her online store is a collection of Vase Pins. A “Vase Pin” is a pretty little Sterling Silver vase that pins to a garment and holds a small flower.

“We get many requests for our Victorian jewelry and gift items from all over the world. Because of this interest we have just started offering international shipping to select countries abroad.” says Ms. Moccia.

It’s hard to explain the public’s fascination with the Victorian age. People collect Victoriana for many reasons, but the driving force in this trend may simply be the public’s appreciation for the unique style of this era with its intricate designs. All in all, it seems our interest with the Victorian era will keep growing for some time to come, thanks to organizations like The Victorian Society in America.
