GALA Holds Semi-Annual Member Meeting in Barcelona, Announces Advisory Council

Prior to the Localization World Conference in Barcelona May 30 – June 1, GALA, the Globalization and Localization Association, hosted its largest membership meeting to date with nearly 100 members present. In addition to presentations on the association’s activities and group discussions on pertinent industry issues, the meeting included an announcement of the formation of an Advisory Council.

Seattle, Wash. (PRWEB) June 15, 2006 -- Prior to the Localization World Conference in Barcelona May 30 – June 1, GALA, the Globalization and Localization Association, hosted its largest membership meeting to date with nearly 100 members present. In addition to presentations on the association’s activities and group discussions on pertinent industry issues, the meeting included an announcement of the formation of an Advisory Council. The council is made up of GALA members, former board members and client representation, including:

  • Hans Fenstermacher, President, ArchiText division of Translations.com
  • Don DePalma, President, Common Sense Advisory
  • Francis Tsang, Director of Globalization, Adobe Systems Inc.
  • Gordon Husbands, Vice President Worldwide Sales & Marketing, Wordbank

The Advisory Council will assist the Board of Directors in developing strategic direction for GALA, creating more channels for GALA to connect with clients, building outreach beyond the localization community, and focusing on special topics as needed.

“One of the first goals for the council is to help GALA fully define its mission, positioning, and long-term vision so the organization can better serve its members and the community at large,” stated Fenstermacher. Now in its fourth year, GALA has grown to represent the supplier side of the localization industry.

GALA members attended the Barcelona membership meeting in coordination with the spring 2006 Localization World Conference, which saw an even higher level of participation than prior conferences. Over 500 attendees from 32 countries were in attendance. Through a cross promotion partnership between GALA and Localization World, both organizations work to grow visibility for the localization industry. Many GALA members continue to serve as presenters and moderators for the conference programming, presenting timely and relevant topics on business and technical industry issues.

MultiLingual Computing and The Localization Institute, the conference organizers, have announced a call for papers for the next Localization World Conference to be held in Montreal October 16-18. The deadline for papers is June 15, 2006. With Localization World now serving as the official host of the GALA member meetings, the GALA Annual Meeting will be in Montreal on the 16th of October.

GALA is an international non-profit association that promotes translation services, language technology and language management solutions. The member companies worldwide include translation agencies, localization service providers, globalization consultants, internationalization specialists and technology developers. GALA companies share a commitment to quality, service and innovation in helping clients reach global markets. Visit www.gala-global.org.
