The impact of Internet pornography on marriage can be devastating.
Salt Lake City, UT (PRWEB) June 1, 2006 -- The CP80 Foundation announced today the release of The Impact of Internet Pornography on Marriage and The Family: A Review of the Research, a book by Jill C. Manning, Ph.D., a Marriage and Family Therapist who specializes in research and clinical work related to pornography and problematic sexual behavior.
"The book shows that pornography, and in particular harder and more violent forms of pornography, are harmful to a marriage," said Matthew Yarro, VP of Marketing for The CP80 Foundation. "There is a great misconception floating around that pornography can 'spice-up' a marriage's sex life, but what it really does is end it all together."
The book contains results from several well-documented studies that show how pornography adversely affects an individual and a marriage. From Chapter 2, Impact on Marital Relationships, the book reads:
Schneider outlined the following recurrent themes in the survey data (concerning Internet pornography use):
• The user makes excuses to avoid sexual intimacy with the partner (not in the mood, too tired, etc.).
• The partner feels hurt, angry, sexually rejected, inadequate, and unable to compete with computer images and sexy online women (or men) who are willing to do "anything."
• During relational sex, the cybersex user appears distant, emotionally detached, and interested only in his/her own pleasure.
• The partner ends up doing most or all of the initiating, either to get her/his own needs met or else in an attempt to get the user to decrease the online activities.
• The user blames the partner for their sexual problems.
• The user wants the partner to participate in sexual activities that she or he finds objectionable.
The CP80 Foundation hopes that the book helps people realize that not all pornography is created equal and that in particularly, harder and extreme forms of pornography can be damaging to our marriages, families and communities.
"The research that is available tells a compelling story about the negative impact pornography can have on marriages and families," said Jill C. Manning.
