FLorida Virtual School Launches New Performance Driven e-Learning for Online Learning

Florida Virtual School (FLVS), a leading developing and providing virtual K-12 education solutions to students throughout the country, launched Virtual School Administrator (VSA) – an innovative Performance Management System designed specifically to meet the unique needs of organizations providing online learning opportunities to students. VSA tools enhance student and teacher performance ponitoring, provide for easier compliance with NCLB, and improved school-parent communication.

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) July 8, 2006 -- At the 2006 National Educating Computing Conference held in San Diego, California, July 5 – 7, Florida Virtual School (FLVS) launched Virtual School Administrator (VSA), an innovative Performance Management System. Designed specifically to meet the unique needs of organizations providing online learning opportunities to students, VSA is a dynamic, performance-based system developed to provide program administrators with the tools they need to effectively manage the successful operations of an online learning program. In creating VSA, FLVS has built a comprehensive solution for tracking overall performance through monitoring activities in four areas: student performance and data management; student registration and enrollment management; role-based reporting; and communications.

“As existing virtual learning programs grow and new programs are launched, their success will largely be determined by their ability to effectively manage the interactions of all stakeholders as well as how they capture and utilize data to make effective decisions. Our objective was to build a system with the essential administrative, instructional, monitoring and reporting tools virtual learning programs need and to provide students and teachers with the necessary support to enhance academic performance,” said Julie Young, President and CEO of FLVS. “When national leaders talk about collecting information for data driven decision-making – this tool does it.”

As the only performance management system specifically designed for online schools, VSA was created from the ground-up to be a dynamic system for students, parents, teachers, guidance counselors, and administrators who are charged with increasing student performance. “Being able to provide support and mentoring to teachers who are working remotely and to track student performance lesson by lesson all within a system that makes registration and reporting easy is extremely powerful,” explained Young.

VSA has a number of powerful modules within four core areas to track all aspects of operating a virtual school and monitor student progress:

Performance and Data Management: a comprehensive information collection infrastructure that enables administrators to monitor teacher and student performance; observe teaching techniques employed and instructional practices used so that effective teaching strategies could be replicated; and generate near real-time progress reports to help organizations meet enrollment goals and reporting requirements

Student Registration and Enrollment Management: a unique online enrollment management system that supports rolling enrollments, manages wait lists, automatically places students in courses and generates enrollment information for official documents (progress reports, transcripts, warning letters about student progress, etc); a billing management system that tracks registration, material and ancillary fees

Distributive Reporting: role-based reporting that generates over 40 customizable reports based on near real-time information to support the data driven decision-making requirements of No Child Left Behind; internal administrative reports that help program administrators meet requirements by district or state officials; teacher management reports that track instructional activities and customizable reports on student academic progress, enrollments, etc.

Communication Tools: a secure, web-based communication system with separate and unique “dashboards” that students, parents, teachers and administrators use to view course activity; parents access includes progress reports, including grades, feedback on assignments, messages from teachers, unfinished assignments, etc;

An Application Server Provider (ASP) model, VSA is scalable to meet any organization’s needs. FLVS has used VSA as its sole performance management tool for the past two years to power the operations of Florida Virtual School, all of its franchises in the state of Florida, as well as its Easy Start program.
